SexmeSexmenot What are everyone's comment on this song? I think it's funky as hell and has a great, thick bassline. I like this song more than anything on Musicology by far and I wish he's release a whole new album of material that is heavily promoted like this!

doesn't he not make sex songs anymore? Isn't this recent? Don't hurt me, I'm a newb. I'm supposed to be stupid.

Recent? Can't really say that. SexMeSexMeNot was released in two versions. The origial came out in one of the NPG Ahdio shows back in 2001 and then it was released later in 2001 as a single song mp3. A newer extended version, which I first heard in October 2001 at one of the famous Chicago NPGMC parties at The Berlin, was released last year (2004) as part of one of the Musicology Download store downloads on the offical site.

The song could be cool in ´89 but now? it really sounds dated!

As I keep saying, Prince still does 'sex songs', a lot less frequently yes, but I mean, listen to the lyrics of Mellow from TRC which describes watching his love reach climax while using a sex toy - and that from his most devoutly JW album. I personally love Sex Me, Sex Me Not - it's a vibrant energetic track, a throwaway pop number perhaps, but still fun and funky.

I don't really agree with you - I don't think the song sounds dated more than late nineties Prince perhaps. Anything he does now if you took back to the '80s it would sound cool - because it would sound futuristic! Strange that even now we all love his 80s stuff yet if he did something in that vein now we would call it 'dated'!

Good point!
I realized this weekend that 95% of every cd that I love listening too is 1998 or earlier...I bet that is the case with lots of people here.

"Sex Me Sex Me Not" doesn't sound that dated to me. It was just another attempt of trying to update, in fact, the old Prince thing with the current (as of time being, 2000-2002) sonical ideas - like the whole "High" project was. The quality of the end-results is an entirely different matter to discuss. I don't think they groove too well, though. The tempo is in general far too modest and the drum sounds too sharp and jerky.

There's some great lines in that song. "I'm about 2 wet your pants", "Leave your sister and your underwear at home" ... That's hardcore!! Don't hate me 'cause I'm NOT beautiful

I LOVE this song. The funk in it alone gets me groovin. I could hear this in the clubs right now. If there's anything that I haven't heard from Prince in a while is a real club banging record like this one. I think he still has plenty of songs like this left in him. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

It's a good song. I like it better after he says, "Come on Prince don't do
me like that." I think he could fart these songs out in his sleep, though.
