It’s amazing. I see this thread on Prince’s most depressing songs and there’s no mention of Solo. Or I Hate You. There’s another remarkable thing about Prince’s twisted songs: sometimes they’re dressed up in such peppy music that people don’t really feel the pinch, like I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man. Or even Cinnamon Girl, which isn’t near the same class but will be fresh in everyone’s memory.

3. How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore (doesn't this happen to all of us)

4. Sometimes It Snows In April (works also as an uplifter on some occasions, there's nothing quite a cheer-up as a fictional movie character's death)

5. She's Always In My Hair (I know the lyrics are supposed to be positive, but the music is quite melancholic to my ears)

6. Purple Rain (I've spent countless hours playing this thing on the piano during my worst teeage depression years, I don't even want to remember how to play it anymore)

7. Goodbye (silly, childish, wimpy, but works for me)

8. Open book (well, I'm not the only sucker for this song's overt cheesiness...)

9. Electric Intercourse (again the lyrics have nothing to do with being depressed, but there's something about the music that works quite heavily on that level)

10. My Computer (which pretty much describes my lovelife)

Actually, Prince doesn't have that many depressing songs...

Most of the ones listed, plus God is pretty depressing to me too
