If you like to include dead people, what about Franz Liszt on keys and Paganini on violin. Also, Mozart could do the songwriting... biggrin

Right, but with Jimi and Miles, your group somehow becomes... virtual(?) biggrin

Seriously, I'd like to see this line-up play together:

Prince - lead, any instrument he likes
Sananda - co-vocals, maybe also several instruments
Eric Clapton - Guitar
Sting - Bass, also some vocals
Beyonce - decoration (to compensate all the old guys)
Otherwise, I like his current NPG line-up. Renato is a bomb on keys, same John on drums, and this horn section... Maceo and Candy in one band? Cannot be topped imo!

He also could include Tom Petty once again, just to make him look like a damn high school band guitar player on Prozac again, like in the RRHOF performance
biggrin

Ok, lemme flip my own question now...

If he had to go with an intimate all broad lineup:

Prince - Axe/Vox/Hair
Courtney Love - Axe/Vox
Sheila E. - Skins/Vox
Joyce "Fenderella" Irby - Bass/vox
Alicia - Keys/Vox
Candy - Horns

I feel a supergroup fronted by prince would diminsh his attraction, musically. Prince is everything about his own sound. To put him in a situation whereby some guitar god is now taking the solo's and funk pioneer is holding down the bass etc.... you tend to wonder - what is prince's job? to replace his 'character' and sound on all his instruments with alternate talents to my mind means to remove the prince sound completely.

Besides, mixing greatness with greatness does not automatically equate super greatness. For instance, I love pasta and i love ice cream. Both these foods are great, but if you were to put them in a blender together, mash them up and serve it to me, would it be twice as nice as each dish served seperately?

A fantasy line-up for an unplugged recording:

- Prince, vocals and acoustic guitar
- Nick Drake - Acoustic guitar
- Danny Thompson - Acoustic bass
- Robert Kirby - Orchestral arrangements
- Rocki Dzidzornu - Conga's

'The truth' meets 'Five leaves left', but without the electronics wink

I'd make it one of the most self-contained groups ever! There'd be no set lead vocalist, either.

prince
dez
ttd
jesse johnson
andre cymone
meshell ndegeocello
angelo moore
spacey t
fiona apple

This is perfect. There are elements of soul, funk, jazz, rock, thrash, punk, ska, pop balladry..the tension would be high which makes for great music. There would be sexual tension between p and fiona and fiona and meshell which makes for interesting outcomes. The look of the band is interesting. Poetry in ttd,god obssession in p and dez, rebelliousness in fiona and jesse, outrageousness in angelo and flat out gunslinger battles with spacey, dez,p,and jesse. Man,if I could get them all to work together on,at least ,one project.I'd film all rehearsals, studio time, release all outtakes, demos, and have one special 3 or 4 hour concert that would be filmed from every possible angle. This would blow my mind.

Great line-up. Jimi wouldn't steal the show with that group. With Charlie Parker and Duke? Are you kiddin' me? To tell you the truth the only one I might change is Prince. I want James Brown as my frontman. Let Prince write the songs.

Some of you have no idea what you're talking about, musically. I think most of these imaginary bands would sound pretty horrible...

Seriously though, I think a good band would be one where all the musicians had an affinity for Prince's music. A band of Charlie Parkers and Jaco P's probably wouldn't gel. The musicians I am listing all respect, love and have studied princes music.

Put Prince on stage with the following musicians and it would be MURDER!

Prince - Vox

Quest Love -Drums

Meshell - Bass

D'angelo - Keys

David Ryan Harris - Guitar

Lenny Kravitz - Posing
