Does someone think Prince is kinda holding up on guitar on Xpectation and news? He sounds like he is afraid of trying more adventorous solos, he does some great licks and when it start to sound great, he stops, or never begins.

Yes - he always seems to have those genius guitar moments when playing live.

Maybe the guy just needs a couple of drinks and to just loosen up a little, hit record, play guitar for a hour or so and pick the best bits... or maybe he should invite Clapton, Santana, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Slash, Satriani et al over so that he feels like he has to impress?

You're right. I don't have/haven't heard "Xceptation" but do have "NEWS" and know excatly what you mean. He's great at all (most?) instrutments but when he lets loose on the guitar...could have been a much better disc.
