Do you like Prince singing voice?

Personally I think his "deep voice" is sexy, but I don´t like him singing in a high voice.

My father says the same, and I tend to think that his low register is more appealing than the falsetto too. On record the high voice is often sublime but "live" I think his low voice is more convincing.

I think all his different singing voices are great! I particularly love his falsetto. He can sure hit those notes and it seems so effortless. IMHO - the man has an amazing voice regardless of what range he's singing in.

For me, Prince is not a GREAT singer, but he uses his voice in a smart way that it suits his songs....

Although he has an incredible range, Prince's singing amuses me a lot of the time more than anything. It's really him as a musician I love.

nod He knows how to use it as another instrument. Remakes of his songs often suffer because those covering them can't re-create or don't pick up on the nuances he captures with his voice. If he had a better voice he might get lazy with it, so it's worked to his advantage I think.

Oh, and to answer the question, yes I like it. smile

When it comes to the use of his falsetto, i think it works fine on the slow-jams but not that well on rocktracks.

In my opinion songs like Why You wanna treat me so bad, Bambi and most of the material on Dirty Mind would have worked 'better' and would have sound stronger when Prince had used his normal register.

I once read that in his early years Prince was a bit affraid to use his normal register, because he felt he had to force it to get the same feeling out of it as when using his falsetto. When you listen to controversy, 1999 and Purple Rain you hear getting more secured about singing in his normal register.. and he also improved a lot on using that register.

I have heard the original basic (live)track that was used for the song Purple Rain, and there you finally hear the fellow at ease with using his normal register, able to express himselve with that voice.

I love fallseto, and deep both. But Camille kinda gets on my nerves slightly-although I like alot of the songs he sung in Camille were some of my favorites (Feel U up, Shockadellica. ect.)

I much prefer the lower register. I couldn't stand JOTY until I heard it live in his "normal" voice. He's unique, thats what I like about his voice and his range, although sometimes he gets on my nerves live when he can't seem to decide whether to sing high or low and keeps switching during a song. It feels "pitchy" - to use a dreaded American Idol term.

His falsetto used to suck on most of the songs on his first three albums. "For You" was dreadful because you could barely hear what the man was saying because his voice was so high and weak and if you noticed, Prince cannot sing a strong falsetto, hence the reason why he usually has his band members sing backup during live numbers using the falsetto. But it is a lot more unique and distinguishable than he normal register, Jimi Hendrix-esque voice. Hell, you can still tell it's Prince, but it's not mind blowing or anything.

However, when he's soloing on piano, his falsetto can do some cool tricks. "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore?," "I Can't Love You Anymore," "Leaving For New York," those tracks were amazing, and they were all done with just a piano and his falsetto.

So I guess I'm rather ambiguous in terms of his voice. But I don't really think he's a phenomenal singer to begin with. That's just really the icing on the cake. I listen to him because he's a phenomenal musician who just happens to sing.

Good point. Prince singing "Purple Rain" in falsetto would just kill the song. I guess his use of falsetto depends on the instrumentation of the song. I think with more traditional rock songs (excepting "Bambi" and "With You") he leans more towards his normal register, which is a good decision.

I do like Prince's singing voice. It goes well witht he rest of the package. But what's even more amazing is his ability to hit them high soprano notes. Damn, how does he do it? eek How can any man do that?

oooooh the scream. that's sexxxxy out of this universe (on some occasions.) but in all seriousness, i like his falsetto, but the deep voice is nice when he uses it on a track. it just wouldn't have the same chilling effect on me if i heard it all the time. that's why i love it when i find a song like that on a new Prince cd. it's like really deep and rich... and omg i'm loosing it... but his voice has always been sexy to me.no matter what range.
