The two parts of "We can funk" I don´t know how about you, but the first half of the song is an average funky stuff, but the second just drives me wild. The minute he starts "you can blow the candle light off, you can turn the candle on...." The background vocals, the music, ahhh....pure sex.....It´s one of the most passionate pieces ever. Anyone else agree? "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

There´s an unreleased version??? Is it the same and longer? I could have that ending piece having going on forever..... "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

I was going to say which version. There are about 3 un-released versions if not more. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'll play it first and tell you what it is later. -Miles Davis-

The only version I have is from Graffiti Bridge, but I still dig it.
Sometimes, it's the only reason I pull that cd out.

Have to say the unreleased version from 85 is far superior IMHO. I was so disappointed when I heard the GB version after the excitement of knowing George Clinton was on it too. Can't really listen to that version at all.

Co-sign. It's way too pitched up too. The GB version is a typical example of the fact that P should leave his creations alone after he's done with them. Very rarely his "reworks" work for me...

The very original "We Can Fuck" -version was either from 82 or 83, actually. Don't have the DMSR nearby right now though...

Man, you hit the nail right on the head. I thought I was the only one who felt that way about that song. I totally agree with you.

The original drum track played by Morris Day (in 1982) was used on the GB version. [Edited 4/28/05 10:02am]

Definitely one of my favourites; I love the whole song.

I love this song! But i've never heard any unreleased versions? I'm back!!!!!!!

I like both versions (never heard the We Can Fuck version)
Of course I heard the GB version first, so I wasn't disappointed by it, though I do wonder what George actually did on that song. Probably the line about peeing in a cup, knowing him! Actually I love that line. The biggest difference to me is that the bootleg sounds more "songlike"--that is verse-chorus-verse. The GB version is more of a funk jam. When all's said & done I probably like the GB version better. I think it's one of the best songs on the album. Check this song out at:

I am totally in agreeance with daq! The last part of the song is pure sex to the ear. Doesn't it make you smile when you realize no one was there to see the stupid thing you just did?

You all are trippping! The release version is based on the original, the bootleg version was the one that was completely revamped. In other words the version on Graffiti Bridge has basic tracks that date back (82?) before the (darker slower) one that recorded in '86. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

its better without George Clinton, " see this gold chain around my waist"

the first part of the song is actually a re-recorded and revamped version of the 1985 version.
But in the 1985 version, this is far superior! On Graffiti Bridge, the second part is indeed better! 555-4444 you're on coffee talk.

Fabulous song - I love all of the versions of it.

I wish I heard the other versions to know what you guys are talking about. Cause if it´s as hot as the version off the album.....ahhhh "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

are you sure it's just the first part? I've heard a very early one with a second part too.

THANK YOU! I was just about to post this very same thing and school these folks about this track, since they felt like it was "sabotaged" or "messed up" because it's not like what he did in '86. What's on GB is VERY similar to the ORIGINAL version, which was titled "We Can Fuck"!!! Some may prefer the "updated" version done in '86, but that one's NOT the original track.

Yeah that second part with the "Ahhhh"s in the background make this a great song. I only know the GB version and I love it. It's one of the reasons I like the album so much. The movie was crap but the album (despite Lovemachine) is one of my favorites.

2 my knowledge there are like 4 versions of the 1990 (original) version
1 is 10+ minutes long 2 that seem like edits or alternate takes of the 10min version that have the wah-wah guitar and some additional vocals that make it funky the other 1 is like the demo when george and them just got ahold of the origianl and initially "peed" on it imho, i like both versions. i am more biased towards the revolution version because it was one of the first unreleased songs i heard from prince and was like "WHOOOOA" minor keys and drugs don't make a rollerskate jam

I have one onereleased version on tape, thats rather cool, about 10 minutes, but much more sobre when it comes to production, sounding like a demo for the GB-version
On another 'tape' i have a version with George Clinton that goes on-and-on-and-on-and-on, and is going really nowhere...its about 15 - 20 minutes long. I listened twice to it. I hope that says enough On the tape is also a song by Prince and George Clinton called soulpsychedelicide which, yes, goes, on-and-an-and-on....etc, you know what i am trying to say... I payed big bucks for this bootleg-tape, but there are some things that should been locked in The Vault forever, i guess....lol
