I guess it's all just a generational thing, 'cause I can defend the 90s as well as you defend the 80s (I was 14-24 in the 90s, so I'm a little partial). Older artists who had hits in the 90s: Tina Turner: I Don't Wanna Fight Barry White: Practice What You Preach Four Seasons: December 1963 (Oh What A Night)(Remix) Pretenders: I'll Stand By You Cher: Believe, Love & Understanding Elton John: Can You Feel The Love Tonight, Candle In The Wind 1997 Anita Baker: Body & Soul Aretha Franklin: Willing To Forgive, A Rose Is Still A Rose Bruce Springsteen: Streets Of Philadelphia Rod Stewart: Have I Told You Lately Rod Stewart with The Temptations: The Motown Song Santana: Smooth Beatles: Free As A Bird, Real Love Madonna: Ray Of Light, Frozen (she was 40 when those came out) Stevie Wonder: For Your Love, Jungle Fever Spinners: I'll be Around (with Rappin' 4-Tay) Dramatics: Doggy Dogg World (with Snoop Dogg) Aerosmith: I Don't Want To Miss A Thing (their first number one!) Sting: All This Time, All For Love Styx: Show Me The Way Kiss: Forever Jimmy Cliff: I Can See Clearly Eagles: Get Over It, Love Will Keep Us Alive Fleetwood Mac: Save Me, Landslide, Silver Springs John Mellencamp: Wild Night Billy Joel: River Of Dreams, I Go To Extremes Meatloaf: I'd Do Anything For Love (his first number one also) Isley Brothers: Floatin' On Your Love, Tears Patti Labelle: Never Do You Wrong Chaka Khan: Love You All My Lifetime Bee Gees: Alone Barbra Streisand: I Finally Found Someone plus the Rolling Stones, Tony Bennet, and Frank Sinatra had major hit albums in the 90s. I guess teens from today could justify the music of the 2000s, so it's all just a matter of perspective. 'Cause you may think they were crap, but I get all misty-eyed over old Jodeci and Shai records... | |

----- Yes, the 1 million people that purchased Musicology at retail are not the masses (LOL) Do you ever know what you are talking about? Did you bother to read any of the comments on this topic? Are you even paying any attention to anything that is going on in the music industry? Out of those "1 million" people who bought that crap, how many actually like it? "You need people like me so you can point your fuckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." "

Well, in my opinion, nobody does. It's all about promotion and marketing. People in general are lazy and not really that interested in music, other than on a basic consumer's level. They will buy whatever stuff they're being exposed to, if the package looks good and it's available. It's like if I'm gonna buy some toilet paper - I'm not particularly interested in toilet paper, I don't know very much about it, and I'm too lazy to educate myself on the subject, comparing different marks and prices etc... I only know I need it. So I just go to the store and pick up whatever kind they happen to have. I don't go all around town, read newspapers and reviews, or check the internet, looking for the best quality - it's not that important to me! And unfortunately, most people feel the same way about music. - Perfect! Same thing about food...there are several sophisticated restaurants and cuisines, but lots of people (including many of us) end up going to fast food places. People in general are kind of lazy to find different stuff. | |
