Prince albums from 1978-1988 re-released in Japan: possible remasters?

I was browsing through the selection of Prince CDs on cduniverse.com just recently when I found this: http://www.cduniverse.com...yes&page=2 Here are listed as imports from Japan all Prince albums from For You to Lovesexy... release date May 25th 2005! I wonder if these are remastered hmmm ... Does anyone here have more info on this?

I wish this would be true... that would make my year.
Funny, did you notice that they have "parental advisory" only on Emancipation - not Dirty Mind or others biggrin (i hope and pray that doesnt mean they are cencored ... this is the way to get rumours started).

I don't think the non-stickered albums are censored. The recording industry didn't start stickering albums until the very late '80s, so the first Prince album to get the industry-standard "Parental Advisory" sticker was Graffiti Bridge. Older albums weren't retroactively tacked with warning labels, so the Dirty Mind CD never had a warning label, and likely never will. Well, with the exception of the warning that was on the Dirty Mind cassettes back in the day, which said something like, "Contains language which may be unsuitable for some listeners."

The top music industry magazine/site in Japan, Oricon (the Japanese Billboard), confirms that 10 titles (all albums from For You to Lovesexy) will be rereleased on May 25.

http://www2.oricon.co.jp/...week=4&k=2

I've mailed Warner Music Japan to ask if there is anything special about the rereleases.

I've found some online shops that are offering pre-orders for the CDs. There's no indication of any bonus tracks or special features, and the titles will probably be 1800 yen each.

http://www.neowing.co.jp/...WPCR-75016

CDs get reissued here in Japan quite often. Usually it's to offer some low-price campaign or update the information in the Japanese liner notes.

Will let y'all know if i find out anything else.

P.S. This is hilarious, just to let you know. If you use Altavista's translation engine to translate the Oricon page above, some of the album titles will come up correctly. But Purple Rain becomes Purple Lane, and the two albums that were retitled for Japan, Prince and Controversy, become Pegasus of Love and Your public child of shivering !!

interesting, isn't this at a similar time that the remasters of 1999:new master and new power soul are coming out in the US?

its an odd market japan, i think when aerosmith toured there lately they remastered the solo albums from joe perry and brad whitford, i mean, only the hardcore of the hardcore have them but they were mastered and put on cd etc. so who knows?

I got the answer:
These are just lower-priced versions of the previously available CDs. No remasters, no special packaging, no bonus tracks.
The hardest of hardcore collectors will want them for the slightly different obi strips (those little pieces of paper wrapped around the spine of Japanese CDs or the length of records), and Lovesexy might be a tracked version, but otherwise the CDs are the ones you already have.
Let's keep hoping for something new.

Peace
Kebi

ugh, i hope any remaster of SOTT isn't a single disc, i'm just not arsed, its conceived of as 2 discs, i don't want it to be one 80minute disc opus.

does make you wonder if anythings been change, but i heard all recent re-prints of this album have been single disc, wonder if prince is happy with that.

Actually, SOTT is on 2 CDs.

http://www.neowing.co.jp/...WPCR-75021

It has a 2800 yen list price.

OceanofViolets & Psykosoul,
My pleasure! I'm always happy to give the updates from Japan.
