Prince Store Reports "Six Figures in Sales" in First Week This if from last year but, I wonder what the final figure was?
Prince Store Reports "Six Figures in Sales" in First Week Date: april, 2004 (40704) Prince`s Musicology Download Store has gotten off to a solid start, with reports of "six figures in sales the first week alone". The data comes from San Diego-based Entriq, which is handling the store`s download security, reporting and billing mechanisms. Associated hosting and delivery aspects are being handled by Irvine, CA-based Vitalstream. NPG Music Club webmaster Sam Jennings reportedly pleased with the progress so far. Potential new plays in the private-artist download space could be on their way, with several superstar artists now outside of the major label structure. It's pretty impressive number but I would assume that there was a 90 percent or bigger dropoff week 2 after all the initial members purchased.
Was it ten bucks a download? I guess that would mean at least a ten thousand people purchased the album early (unless they were counting membership fees as well.) Depending upon costs thats almost free money because those same people probably either purchased teh real thing or got one for free at a show. Just another example of sqeezing every last drop from the fams

Interesting in light of that recent email, the one begging members to buy more downloads and implying that if they didn't, NPGMC might go out of biz or whatever. ----- Just a way to get people to buy stuff. If P wants more downloads he needs to put up new product. My guest is he may not have anything ready since he spent most of last year touring. 98 shows in sixt months does not give you a lot of time to prepare material.

the npg just fucked up and worded a promotion for the store unbelievably badly, at least they apologised which is a vast improvement over some of the debacles we've had
i'd be SHOCKED if prince hadn't got enough new material for a new album by now we know he's got glass cutter which was recorded in a single night. satisfaction is another new one. plus we know members of the npg have recorded there lately, and jazz players have too. he has enough stuff certainly. personally i think the new album is more or less in the can, subject to the wind changing and prince deciding something different of course!
