I am still leary of if this is the real track listing. Just seems weird someone in Canada getting their CD before anyone in the states, even in Minnesota. I order things from Canada alot and the company I use, sends it first class and it usually takes 2 weeks to get something. It just will be interesting to see if all this complaining is for not.
Anyway if you have been able to experience a sound check on the current tour it is worth the $100.00 for the membership. I was lucky enough to be able to buy the cheap seats and enjoy the soundcheck also. Believe me I have been upset with Prince's organization in the past. I am still steaming from the crystal ball fiasco.

Yes it is the real thing. The CD is not disapointing at all... at least not for me.

...i agree with the idea of quality over quantity...i get plenty of cds that are about 10 songs too long...
..like little richard said 'a little bit o' somethin' is better than a whole lotta nothin...'
and tho i haven't got my copy of the whole cd yet the songs i've heard from it are some of my fav'rites...

okay..i misspelled 'quantity..' big deal...redface

I would just have to add to this and say that Prince has 3 more CDs promised to us this year. Who knows what they will hold. Additionally, we know he has been busy touring this spring so I would imagine that he might not have been able to dedicate as much time to this CD. Why don't we see what else we get this year before complaining.

Just a thought.

When you complain that you didn't get something you wanted, remember this: "I cried because I had no shoes, until I saw a man with no feet."

Act now and for $100.00 you too can have Prince come to your home and do exactly what you tell him to!!! rolleyes

Has anybody that is complaining considered the fact that he has already spent most of this year touring?

Exactly when do you expect him to have time to *seriously* write, perform, and edit new stuff? Oh and then there's the weeklong party that he's coordinating too.

Yeah sure he's prolific and all that, but it's unreasonable to expect him to work at that pace. Give the man some space and time to fulfill his obligations. It's not like he's sitting on his ass someplace...doing nothing.
Given the nature of his recent activities I wouldn't be surprised if he sent out mostly live CD's for the year. It would be the easy thing to do and he'd be totally within his right to send that kind of stuff out. Instead he's actually going one step further and sending out studio stuff.

RE: Tour/international thing...he spent most of the early 90's exclusively touring Europe. It's about time he focused on the states.

As far as international members go...maybe he should send out live CDs to those members, as some sort of compensation for not touring internationally.

Maybe international members should *constructively* lobby for him to do this (in an intelligent, decent, respectful manner).

I would...but I live in the states. Well...that and I didn't bother to join the club.

When these songs first became available I considered them to be like a cd single. A preview of the coming cd which would include these songs. I made the choice not to listen to them until the whole cd was released so I wouldn't be tired of them. It was never hidden that these were upcoming cd tracks. Why acted pissed now? You've known this for a while.

I did the same thing. I listened to the songs once then didn't listen to them again as I knew they would be coming on CD. smile

I think people should also take note of one very important fact.

This CD was recorded in ONE SESSION hence its description as a demo. That was how long the session went for. It is that experience which has been laid down on CD.

Do you seriously want him to sit down and tack another 5-6 songs from a different session? It might not flow at all. When he originally recorded it he most likely never intended for it to be released.

I figure that he is very happy and proud of that session and feels it deserves a release. Why would he fuck around with it?

Quality not quantity.

This is just my 2 cents.
A lot of people were mad last year because they wanted music on cd's instead of mp3's.
I know I was a little agrivated that songs like Pearls B4 the Swine and Jukebox With a Heartbeat were burried in ahdio shows and I couldn't skip right to them.
Now, the new members don't have these songs, so now they get them on cd.
I'm not saying that Prince is perfect, or that I agree with everything he does, but give the guy a little slack!
How would u feel if EVERYTHING that you did was met with skeptisism?

I didn't know this was all from one session - sort of like Prince's version of Unplugged except without MTV.

Where were these cds being manufactured? - Canada??
Maybe they are being produced & shipped from Canada & therefore are arriving there first.

That would make sense. It would be cheaper to manufacture and ship from there, since our $ is worth a little more.

Well, that and Canada IS our bitch to the north.

ROFLMOA!!! You are so silly. I can't wait until we get our CDs, hopefully we will have them in time to listen to them before the celly next month. I'm not going to complain about the songs being already given to us through our membership with NPGMC, because my computer never plays the songs correctly anyway. My computer makes the tracks stutter for some dumb reason -- totally annoying! So it will be great to have the songs on an actual CD that will not stutter or skip like the ones I have downloaded. Bring it on, I'm ready! biggrin biggrin

This is the promised piano album. Who says he wont later on decide to release a live one from ONA..and if he does he is gonna edit and fix it so there will still be complaints etc.

And about bootleggers doing a better job of putting out his live stuff etc..well thats their main focus..thats why. Prince is creating shit and recording it...besides since there is so much live stuff out there anyways, whats a official release gonna do? Satiate the craving for live material--u said it yourself..the boots are out there and those who oput them out there have done a fine job. And I agree. So why not have Prince still give us different stuff? No amoutn of releases is going to satisfy Prince fans..we know this. We want everything thats possible. It is part of the sickness.

No..that's not the problem. The real problem is this Prince worship some of his fans engage in. This Prince is God he can't do no wrong attitude.

Supposedly Prince has ton of stuff in the vaults and probably has a bunch of his live shows; yet we get a maxi single with 4 songs that he gave us last year?! And some fans act immensely happy to get it.

"Oh we're not worthy..."

It's still too early to gripe really..as there are still 3 more CDs to come. And yes..I enjoyed the concert. But sorry, I'm not going to take this "Prince doesn't owe us" attitude. At least not when I (and every1 else) paid in advance.

Well truth be told, it goes both ways, you got your asskissers for whom Prince can do no wrong and your naysayers who are personally insulted by every breath that Prince takes.

I figure the truth is somewhere in the middle, he and his organization can be incredibly annoying at times, AND he and his organization can impress the hell out of you sometimes. Now if you find yourself more annoyed than pleased by Prince, then get 2 steppin! wink For me, he's gotten less annoying as he's matured, but that's just my opinion.

Tom

I have a feeling if Prince were to release a 4 minute CD of himself passing gas and plucking a rubber band as part of this years NPGMC, there would be people on here defending him for it.

I would imagine his early albums were short because of limitations with LPs and 8tracks. Remember how 1999 was originally shortened? Alot of albums 25-30 years ago were shorter than those released today.

Prince himself has been all about getting his fair dues in recent years with everything from protesting his record company to suing fan web sites and publications for using his likeness. In that regard, its only fair for fans to be able to complain about getting their money's worth as well.

The original advertisement of year 2 said "at least 4 albums" which would imply possibly more. The ONA ad now says "the remaining 3 albums" which kills that hope. 35 min is short for an album, especially from an artist as prolific as Prince. If it were a masterpiece like "OK Computer" I would justify ommitting tracks to maintain the "flow" but right now I'm just digging for some decent tracks from P after a dissapointing year 1.

I'll cut myself off now and save the rest of my rant for the end of year 2. Sorry folks.

Thoughts:

1-- The four songs released last January as downloads were advertised as being from the upcoming One Nite Alone CD, so nobody who was a member last year should be at all surprised that these four songs are on the first album released...January was used as a teaser to get people to sign up, hell everyone practially agreed on that back when they were released...I was expecting them to be on the CD when I joined up for year 2...would be ridiculous for me to complain about them being on there now...

2-- Only the premium members last year got all four of those songs...the monthly members last year only got "A Case Of U" as a download...to them, only one of those songs were paid for already...(well, and "Pearls" as well, but not as a download)

3-- Some people keep saying "there's 6 songs on this new CD that we've already got!!"...Not sure how they arrived at that number, but it's wrong..."Have a (heart):, "Objects in the Mirror", "Avalanche", "Young and beautiful" and "Arboretum" have never been made available in any form before now as far as I know...

4-- The worth of an album isn't based on minutes, but on how well it works as a whole when listened to as a whole...I haven't read the entire thread, but from what I can remember, only one person so far has listened to the entire CD...and that person seems to think that it's a quality album...so we might wanna at least hear the CD before deeming it a waste of $$ or a cop out...

By the way...a serious question for those complaining or having a problem with the ONA CD...(and I'm not finding fault with ya, just am curious as to what you think)...Where do you think Prince made the mistake, in releasing so many songs from this CD last January as teasers, or in not putting on more songs??..In other words, had you only heard one song from the album so far, would the 35 minutes bother you as much??...

I agree that Prince is not at all exempt from criticism. Much of it is certainly valid. But this "it said at least 4 and we are only getting 4" complaint seems to be a bit of a stretch.

If someone says you're gonna get at least 4 of something, then you should expect 4. If you get more great! If not you still got what was promised.
