of course some of the tracks are from last years NPGMC - when they were released, they were listed as being from One Night Alone. I thought those 4 tracks were a promising start and am thrilled pearls before the swine is on there too. Should be a great CD - going to go check my mailbox.

Oh... and for those wondering, Steve Parke is listed as Photography and Art direction. Layout and Design is Jeremy Gavin. So it seems that Parke did the cover art.

So, it's 35 minutes long. Isn't it the quality of the work that matters? If it was the maximum allowable time I'm sure that some people would say, "if only he would edit himself." Hopefully after being a musician for over 20 years he doesn't let others critisism get to him...too much. I have heard 6 of these songs previously and am glad that he finally put them on a cd 4 us. I've paid 25.00 for alot let less. And I've paid 25.00 for alot more and wished it was less. Once again, it's the quality of the music to the individual not the time...Aloha~

35 minutes?! That is SHORT! Minus that annoying "Lincoln is a racist" song, it's even shorter. UGHH!!! That's not really an album..more of a maxi single isn't it?

Oh well it's been paid for. Nothing else to do but grin and bear it I guess smile

This is the real thing, i live in Montreal Canada and received my copy this morning. Its Prince alone at the piano as much as The Truth was "acoustic".
Most of the songs are different versions than were realeased on the NPGMC site.

Could you please elaborate on which songs are different than the NPGMC-released version, how they're different, etc.? Thanks!

The only 2 songs with drums are already known to the member of the NPGMC : Here on earth and A case of U. John Blackwell is on drums on those 2 songs. The rest of the album is Piano with Prince on vocal and back vocal and some soft synth pads and strings. The doves-Divinity and Majesty are credited for ambient singing. A Case of u is dedicated to the memory of John L. Special thanks to Joni Mitchell too...

Here's a short review of 3 songs :

Avalanche is a very slow song, and says that Abraham Lincoln was a racist. It also mentions Duke Ellington and John Hammond.

Young and beautiful starts with some japanese style harmony on the Piano. The intro sounds very nice, and the song is great too.

Arboretum is an instrumental. Soft piano, with some pad synths in the back. It is about 2 minutes long... then you hear Prince standing and walking away from the Piano. After that, there is one minute of complete silence.

Nah, from what I read in the tour book, all the songs on Xenophobia are instrumentals and all start with the letter X smile Prince has also been playing Xenophobia(the whole album) at most of the tour dates before the concert. Prince has been performing Avalanche live and it has lyrics and very sparse so it would fit nicely on One Nite Alone instead of Xenophobia

Actually, time matters as much, if not, more than quality. Look, Prince fans are an eclectic bunch with a wide varitety of tastes. There's no way Prince can routinely put out CD that appeals to most fans. However, there is much more of a consensus as to the length of a $25 CD. 35 min is definitely too short and that's not even considering the fact that *half* of those songs were *sold* to us last year. $25 for 16 minutes of new songs? Ummmmm no....

Dirty Mind is half an hour long....who is disappointed with that CD because of its length?

If I already had these half of the songs from last year, though...I'd be upset, too.

Umm..reason enough to be upset then. smile

But seriosly..why doesn't just take one of his concerts from ONA and just release that? I mean jeeze..why is it that the bootleggers can do a better job of this that he can? If he released 4 live CDS (of various tours over the years) of pristine quality the fans would be ecstatic. But no..he give us a 35 minute CD with songs we downloaded earlier this year.

With all the people with CD burners these days..does he really think people haven't already burned those tracks to a CD already?

Why? Because he let members get a preview of 4 songs of an upcoming release and now that those songs are part of the release its upsetting?

While I would love for that to happen and its a great idea, that is probably has never been a part of Princes planned intentions.

Maybe because we already bought these 4 songs and we don't like paying twice for the same thing...
