I believe that there actually are 3 versions if I'm not mistaken. This is one of my favorite P songs of all time and I love the version which was on the final "Dream Factory" configuration

Warners would not allow this song to be released because it was too contreversial.
The song attempts to blend the themes of vaginas (Prince was obsessed with that theme at this time) with dihydrogen monoxide (Prince thought WB was poisoning his drinking supply with this stuff), and God. They felt it was an inappropriate blend of the themes. Although in the bible Jesus actually came into contact with didydrogen monoxide several times, Warners still felt it was too contreversial. Good song though.

I don't like the version with wendy and lisa and eric in the background. They get in the way of that hard rockin groove! I like the bare version best. The Org is the short yellow bus of the Prince Internet fan community.

I know of two versions of Witness 4 the Prosecution, one that is more funk and the other more rockish, but they are close enough to each other. The song "swells" as soon as the vocals start -- it starts with what would be a climax in any other song, but actually builds from that. By the time you reach the middle, you have goose bumps and it's far from over. It's a crime that one of his most intense songs was never released, but it's easy to see why -- Wendy and Lisa tinkered with Prince's initial idea and it became more of a Revolution song, which made it a prime candidate to be dropped once the band was dissolved. It is one of the songs Prince would have liked to release in the late 90's for an eventual reunion with W&L, for the RoadHouse Garden project.
