Prince tends to ignore much of his lesser-known gems in live concerts and rarely performs tracks from his latest albums.

This really bugs me.

On the Jam Of The Year tour he had just released a 36 track triple CD set and he performed about three or four tracks from the album...

On the Hit N Run tour he didn't perform anything from Rave. On the Musicology tour he performed a small handful of tracks from the actual album.

I recently heard Face Down performed live from back in '97... it was absolutely amazing! I can barely listen to the album version now because it sounds so tame in comparison.

It kills me to know that there are loads of gems from older albums that he'll never perform live in concert.

Tori Amos is one of my favourite artists and on all her tours she performs a wide variety, representing her entire body of work... including rare b-sides, obscure decade-old album tracks... why can't Prince be more like this?

It doesn't exactly show a great deal of confidence in your newer work if you ignore a large bulk of it in favour of tracks from 1982 that you've performed hundreds of times before. He may as well come on stage wearing a placard saying "You're right, I ain't what I used to be!"

That has to be the main contender for the longest-ever headline.

... the ONA tour would be an example of Prince playing lotsa new stuff.

Yeah, that was cool. I remember being shocked when I heard him playing "Don't Play Me".

I'd love it if more of his shows were like that tour.

Interesting question, I´ve been wondering about this, too.
I guess all we ca do is speculate, and I always had the impression that the Emancipation album was a bit too personal (Mayte, the personal tragedy etc.) and ill-fated, maybe he doesn´t feel like performing songs from that era.
Same thing with the whole Rave/Clive Davis fiaso. And keep in mind that EMI sort of dissolved after Emancipation came out.
He did perform a lot ,ore songs from NPS and , of course, TRC , as cdwwy83 mentioned above.
But I don´t have a clue why he didn´t perform more from Musicology.
Maybe because the tour was supposed to be a greatest hits tour.
" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I agree with u about FACE DOWN live putting the studio version to shame! But Prince performs rarities, like on Musicology tour one night he did "Elephants And Flowers," on the ONA tour he did "Other Side OF The Pillow," etc.
It's goin' down y'all.
Like the wall o' Berlin!
