once again: why should he have a star? shrug

because other fans (who are not you) would like him to have one.....

giggle

fandom alone should be enough of a star on a sidewalk as it is. having an actual star there is nothing more than vindication, imo.

its part of the hollywood myth. to this day, everytime i hang out on hollywood blvd i find myself looking for someone i like and staring down at their star. its fun. i walk past tons of names of people i dont know...and i dont care. but the one star i like, i stop and say, "hey, look its pia zadora's star".

and it makes me smile for the next fifteen minutes. its really not about the entertainer, but their fans.

thats the reason why the hollywood chamber of commerce requires a fan club to pay for the star. (not the star themselves, not the studio or label.)

now sure some studios and label's filter the money to the fan clubs but so what....theres always gonna be people breaken rules. shouldnt take away from the good intentions of those fans who actually get together and raise money. i remember a few years back when fans took years to raise money for someone.....ughh..i cant remember who it was but it was an entertainer who had long been forgotten. the entertainer was soo touched and honored. and his fan club were all there crying. i thought it was touching.

I wonder what they will do in 20 years or so when they run out of space to add stars. If Spade and Seacrest have a star, dear god, they might as well give the That's So Raven girl one too! They must be running out of space if theyre giving damn near everybody one.. It wont even be an attraction anymore.

umm, nah, they will just fill up the entire city of Hollywood. Theres plenty of street left.

well i just hope they don't take over the areas where the celebrities pick up the whores and transvestites !!!! mad lol

prince doesnt have to agree to it...he just has to agree to attend the ceremony...

im pretty sure the stars can *not* pay for it themselves. if memory serves, it has to be a fan organization. but in most cases the studios or labels will filter the money through the fan club. since prince no longer has a label to coordinate its now left to his fans. the only stipulation pertaining to the entertainer is that they agree to appear at the ceremony.

from langebleu:

Here is the process:

"The Walk of Fame is overseen by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

"The process is frequently initiated by the performer's management or reps; however, anyone can submit an application to the Chamber nominating a celebrity for the honour with the approval of the celebrity or their representation. Recently, it has become increasingly common for fan groups to sponsor Walk of Fame stars.

During the course of a given year, the Chamber accepts nominations; the selection committee announces their picks in June for the following year's inductees. An average of 20 nominees are selected yearly to receive a star in one of five categories (film, television, recording, stage or radio), from a typical 200 or more applications received. Once the celebrity is selected, payment of $15,000 is required to seal the deal. This fee is used by the Chamber to pay for the plaque as well as the cost of the induction ceremony.
