Nside The Vault.... nfo courtesy of SWANGSALWAYSONPOINT: As a side note, from what I understand, most of it is full of miles of reel tape. One of Prince's former engineers once volunteered to transfer their contents to digital format, arguing that the tapes will eventually begin to warp and decay even if just left on the shelf. According to him, Prince initially said, "Okay, start next week." The day before the engineer was ready to begin, Prince called and said, "Forget it." When the engineer (I believe it was Hans Buff) reminded him about the deteriorating condition of the tapes, Prince responded, "So?" love

I wonder if maybe Prince is just a bit 2 paranoid about more unreleased stuff leaking out if it gets in the wrong hands. Who's 2 say, maybe he can't even trust his own engineer at this point... Don't hate me 'cause I'm NOT beautiful

That's so weird.
You'd think Prince would be so incredibly protective of those tapes and do absolutely anything withim his power to preserve them, and the effort he invested in creating that music.

it surprises me that he'd leave it in such a dangerous condition... One could reason that if he's left certain things in there for this long, maybe those things aren't really important to him. Tough to give a crap about a song you wrote/recorded on a cold December day back in '86 when you're still currently averaging about a song a day.

Eye'm not surprised. A friend once made reference 2 his mindset some time ago....
"with THE CREATIVE SOURCE gone...all pre-xisting material with have it's worth by dgrees, but 2 whom, really, then? 2 come from the vault, only 2 return 2 a vault...poetic justice? or sheer irony?" love

Does he not value his work anymore????
He should at least release another Crystal Ball or boxset of unreleased shit or put them all up on the NPGMC for sell. Onion Juice appears courtesy of Streethop.com

I rented a Queen DVD last night & as a bonus it had a section where Brian May & Roger Taylor discussed the making of Bohemian Rhapsody. It was amazing to watch cuz it showed Brian in the studio with the actual Reel to Reel & he & a studio engineer played all the music tracks seperately bass, vocals, piano, guitar, etc. The sounds were crystal clear because they took steps to insure that the original tapes were preserved by "baking" them. Kinda sad to think when you compare this with Prince's tapes in the vault slowly deterioting ... [Edited 4/21/05 15:08pm]

I posted all that info (plus more besides) on this forum about a year ago. No matter, what IS important is how the rest of the info pertained to how those tapes are almost certainly irretrievably gummed now, and how he's had it written into his will that upon his death any remaining unreleased material will be immediately DESTROYED. However, one wonders what these tapes are - these could simply be dupes, as it's been previously mentioned (by SIR Boris of Fishpaw if memory serves correctly) that he has a number of temperature controlled storage units in Canada and California anyway - which could be where the masters are kept. At the end of the day, it's all hearsay and guestimation.

If that´s the case, then how come he still releases old stuff or uses samples from old stuff from time to time ?
Think of the sample taken from "The Line" in Acknowledge Me or the songs on Crystal Ball or even Musicology ( some songs are said to be quite old).. I mean Crystal Ball is almost ten years old, but still...he must have thought about this a long time ago, otherwise we would´nt have all those later released songs ( on the Vault album, CB, etc. etc. , or think about Splash, that song is from what, 1986 ? And it was relased not too long ago ( 2001 ?).. so there you go... [Edited 4/22/05 4:13am] " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! could we handle another 900 prince songs anyway??
I mean, on top of what he'll still release in new material the next decade or so. Hmm, wait a minute. scrap that. Now gimme the keys I think I'd be able to distill another 2000 Prince tunes into my fibres with no trouble at all. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
