Say what you want about Tony M but Cat is MUCH worse!

That horrible rap she did on Alphabet St.....man that tune is the JAM except for taht part. And then the thing she did on "Cindy C" Her lyrics suck, her flow is bad....Tony M had some decent lyrics and his flow was cool, kinda that New Jack rap style. Discuss.

NO ONE is worse than TC ELLIS! LMAO!

That's what tripped me out about Prince: Dude had all this musical talent but could never get a bomb ass rapper. I mean, Q-Tip woulda been great on a lot of the rap bridges he wanted, I know probably not for conert, but the writing woulda been hella better. Eve was cool on TGRTEBS and Doug E. Fresh was decent...but P NEVER got any NICE ASS RAPPERS to do his shit.

Cat wasn't really a rapper, just a dancer and choreographer.

Her vocal contributes I like to think come from a different place to Tony M. - Tony M. was a 'rapper', parcel and package - image and sound.

Cat I imagine was coming from more of a House angle, you can hear a lot of it in that time period.

Think about the J.M. Silk 'Music Is The Key' rap from Cindy C (later Positivity) - Cat introduced Prince to that, and as the story goes he didn't know it wasn't Cat's own composition - I think Cat may have had a slight influence in opening Prince to House at the time.

I think the House scene was influenced by earlier Prince too - if you listen to something like Frankie Knuckle's 'Baby Wants To Ride' or Blake Baxter's 'Sexuality' - you can hear it's very possible there was a Prince influence there, specifically from the 1981-1983 period.

Then back to Prince's 87/88 period, you can hear the House influence in the Madhouse, Black Album and Lovesexy stuff - the hard 4/4 beats, the sparse instrumentation, the dance sensibility, the orchestral stabs Prince used a lot were very common in House music then.

I would have LOVED to hear Prince dip into this more, I think it would have worked fantastically well - I can hear a hybrid of the 1999 and Batman sounds.

And I think that's why Cat was a great addition to the band at that time. cool
