Nah, those protege songs in the movie are garbage.

Sex Shooter, I Wanna Be a Modernaire, and The Bird are lame 80's crap.

"The Bird" is lame??? Oh, dear... disbelief

Terrible song, and the dance is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen. The fact that they still perform this song (with the exact same "wing flapping" dance) is just embarassing.

I still do sad

I miss Dezzie poo

Silly question but isn't that Dez who does the opening line of 1999. I know I should know these things but sometimes I get distracted by football or Hitchcock movies or something.

Naw....A STRIP CLUB! And every Friday, Appolonia 6 and the Mary Jane Girls would have a STRIP-OFF contest to see who was the baddest!

Bearing in mind that a Warner's rep wasn't in the audience that night to immediately sign the Revolution up, I think the band that would have been dropped would have been Appolonia 6. Sure they got a huge response the night they first performed but a lot of that was due to their visual representations of their breastal region. Billy, who was many things but was not tone deaf, had to realize that the girls had not talent in the singing department but would be great at the strip club he owned down the street. So he would have whisked them off and have his three bands intact for awhile, eventually firing the Modernaires for lack of creativity, i.e. not having any songs in their catalogue without the word "modernaire" in it. He replaced The Modernaires with a number of acts (Mazarati, The Family, etc.) before deciding to just have The Revolution (later the NPG) and the Time battle each other every night. One sad night, Billy was peeing and overheard TC Ellis rapping in a bathroom stall. The rap was so godawful that Billy began laughing uproariously, which caused him to go into cardiac arrest. Despite efforts by Monte Moir and George Clinton to save him, Billy passed on and the rest is history. The Time got all the clubs except for the Glam Slam (hard to explain how that happened except to say it had something to do with Robin Power, a jar of honey, and a jackhammer) and the Kid met an angel who became a feather.

Appollonia 6 didn't perform at 1st ave in the movie..they played at another club.

Turning 20...and the point of that insult was what?

I don't have to have been around in 84 to think a song sucks. Plenty of 80's songs have aged horribly and sound dated now, and Prince's songs for his protegees have mostly fallen in that category today.

"A Million Miles" IS the shit though. "If I walked through fire, would U say my love was real?"

"Some Kind of Lover" was pretty tight, too.
