general health and confidence within makes a difference on how the music sounds and how its recieved
would it not make a difference? I didn't say the music would be better, worse, or the same. I said it would be recieved differently If you will, so will I

This doesn't mean a person has to be sexy or beautiful to have his/her talent recognized and appreciated, but a look of general health and confidence within makes a difference on how the music sounds and how its recieved. So if Prince became ill and his appearance reflected that to a degree (I'm not talking in terms of extremes here, but enough to be noticed), his music wouldn't sound as good or be received as well? I think she just meant that Prince being so beautiful adds to his charm. It's true. I'm not even attracted to guys, but knowing Prince is so gorgeous definitely helps. Songs like Prettyman are more enjoyable cause of that reason. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

would it not make a difference? Not to me, in the sense that music is music. If Prince were ill and his appearance reflected that, I'd feel badly FOR PRINCE the person and hope he got well, but how I "received" his music wouldn't change. I didn't say the music would be better, worse, or the same.
I said it would be recieved differently HOW, though? People wouldn't like it as much? I'm not trying to be thick I just honestly don't understand what you mean by it would "be received differently".

also, I put confidence in there because even when a person is
handicapped by something, talent still shines through when they take it in stride. Perfect example: I've seen Teddy Pendegrss shows where he still has ladies throwing pannies on stage. Because he takes care of himself, and knows that despite being wheelchair bound he's got a charm and talent for days ok, my rant is over If you will, so will I

It just seems like some folks, at least from what I'm getting from their posts, are saying that if Prince suddenly became unattractive his music would be less enjoyable to them or something.

My wife used to think Prince was slightly odd looking/not that attractive. Not ugly, just not Denzel or Brad Pitt. Anyhow, after seeing him live she got to see his talent, his charisma, and his oozing sex appeal. She now says that Prince has a certain aura that makes him damn sexy. "New Power slide...."

The mental image would be different regarding his stuff. Most of us fans can hear a Prince song and immediately tell you the year, album, how he was wearing his hair at the time, etc. If Prince looked visibly ill that would be linked in with the music. That doesn't mean that it would be disliked...Case in point: Luther Vandross' stroke had an effect on the reception of his last album. It was a great album, and I would never undercut that but alot of folks jumped on the Luther bandwagon that year. If you will, so will I

Are my posts invisible? It would just change. If he lost motivation, stamina, and became very negative and stopped putting effort into his appearence it would be a negative change BUT if his attitude were the same "Im prettier than you are" attitude as it is now and he kept on workin it, and playing the same way it would NOT be a bad change, like Teddy P. Same here. The first time I saw what he looked like was when I was 15 and watched PR for the first time, and I actually don't find him that attractive in PR for some reason. The music is more important. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

sorry for all the ranting, I really am a nice person
to summarize, image is NOT most important but in today's society to act like they don't make a difference is unrealistic. . [Edited 4/20/05 15:12pm] If you will, so will I

Exactly. His whole "I'm pretty and fabulous and y'all know it" attitude is what helps make him so irresistable. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

In all honesty, it was his music, spirit and persona that captured me but his looks locked me up and threw away the key!

I totally agree with you Krystal666!!!!

His looks and sexuality is just a bonus. I will always love his music and love him for creating that "80s Minneapolis sound. Lennytunia

P is definitely a gorgeous man. It was his beauty that caught my attention. The man has the most beautiful features and gorgeous eyes in the world. lol. I was so busy looking at his beautiful face that I could not concentrate on the music. I first saw him perform on American Bandstand. Once I focused on the music I was hooked 4 life. Yes indeed his music is an added dimension. The talent is undeniable and will not let me go. I love looking at his gorgeous face with all the sexiness that goes with the talent. Prince fan 4 life..
