I didn't say the music would be better, worse, or the same.

I'm not trying to be thick I just honestly don't understand what you mean by it would "be received differently".

also, I put confidence in there because even when a person is
handicapped by something, talent still shines through when they take it in stride.

Perfect example: I've seen Teddy Pendegrss shows where he still has
ladies throwing pannies on stage. Because he takes care of himself, and knows
that despite being wheelchair bound he's got a charm and talent for days

My wife used to think Prince was slightly odd looking/not that attractive. Not ugly, just not Denzel or Brad Pitt. Anyhow, after seeing him live she got to see his talent, his charisma, and his oozing sex appeal. She now says that Prince has a certain aura that makes him damn sexy.
