When 2 R In Love- better on Black Album or Lovesexy?

Personally, i think it flows better with Lovesexy. I mean, listening to Black Album and hearing about sex, drugs, and rock and roll, then to break into a song about being in love kinda fucks up the vibe of the album. What do ya'll think??

I agree. It's way out of place on the Black Album.

The Black Album needs a slow-down ballad in the middle, be it this one or another smoker
Otherwise it would be unbearable neutral

W2RIL sounds better produced on LS than TBA...on TBA it sounds reverbed-out.

eek After my post I was thinking that with 2 or 3 more ballads from the period it could have been a more accesible album. Not taking anything out, just adding slow tracks and I Love You In Me was the first one to come to mind biggrin

Actually I love it on the Black Album. It is a nice break from all the dance music and sexed up lyrics. I think it fits perfectly. For some reason I think the song is kinda dark too! Maybe that has something to do with the video as well. biggrin

I've actually thought about this a lot.

I don't like it on The Black Album. At all. It's even more of a flow killer than "Gotta Broken Heart Again". The sound doesn't fit. The subject matter is way too intimate and beautiful. In fact, I never leave it on that album when I'm burning discs. I wouldn't mind if there were no slow songs on there, but I find that the outtake of "If I Love U Tonight" from '87 is a much better fit for the TBA's funk/soul sound.

It's a perfect match for the spiritual/sexual heights of Lovesexy. The sound is heavenly and trippy like most of the album and it sits perfectly between the songs on either side of it. That album is one of his tightest sequence-wise and I can't imagine that song not being there.

It goes better with "Lovesexy". Also, whenever I'm in the mood to play the track, along with various other slow jams by other artists, I always pull "Lovesexy" because the sound is clearer.

It goes much better on Lovesexy than The Black Album. The song just helps the flow with Lovesexy. Plus I love how the song Lovesexy goes right into When 2 R In Love. It like getting sucked into something beautiful.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

you know, i hated the karaoke video treatment with the SOTT video, but i can give the video for when 2 r in love a pass...there's something kinda dark and skanky about the design of it that appeals to me, even though the reason for that is probably just that it was slapped together at the last minute.

"When 2 R In Love" definitely sounds better on 'Lovesexy'.

I heard it more on the BLack ALbum back in the day, and it fits more tonally with the black album. The sound is strangely and surreal (those slowed hihats are a trip) and very midnight black! Also there is a careful strategy in ending side one with this track and then beginning side two with Bob George!

The sound of this song doesn't fit with the crowded pop feminine spastic rushed sound of Lovesexy!
