Fifteen years ago today - IIWYG / Shockadelica 12"

One of the best 12"s of all time released fifteen years ago today - If I Was Your Girlfriend b/w Shockadlica.
A classic 12 minutes with great songs and great packaging.
Ahhh, those were the days...

That's a great one to start with jnoel. Of course, I started with the Hits 1 and 2, so it's hard to beat that!

Is it any different from the version on the B-sides or just longer, cause I'm lovin' it!

The version on the b-sides is an edit, and the best bits are missing. You HAVE to get the full version, it rocks.

Man! I FREAKED the first time I heard "Shockadelica". I was coming home from a party with some friends and the DJ was spinning some fast booty-type music and mixed in "Shockadelica". (This must've been late '87 or early '88.) I already owned Sign O the Times so was familiar with the Camille voice. Man, I tell you it was a literally moving experience. I had to make sure my ears were not deceiving me. I tried to listen hard so that I could remember it when I got home. Even then I remember thinking "How could the DJ have something like this and where can I get it?" I was too naive back then to know anything about DJ Promos and such. I called my cousin who was a DJ at the time and could find hard to find records and told him "Man, you got to find this record for me. I think it's called "Shockadelica". I'll pay whatever for this." (He had already hooked me up with the 12" of "Irresistable Bitch".) About a week later he calls me up and says "Is THIS the song you were buggin' out for?" (80's lingo) and begins to play it. "Yes!!! Oh, thank you, thank you. How much was it? Where did you find it?" I asked. He told me it was the flip side of ICNTTPOYM. I don't think he was too impressed with it, but I was in Prince B-side heaven!!

Wow. Was that really 15 years ago? I'm sorry. I was reminiscing too hard. It was early '87 if it was 15 years ago. Duh!

All the 12" where the bomb-diggity! I'd rather listen to them then the albums most of the time. I collected them all and made a 4 disc comp with them, It's really bad-ass. I don't feel old, cause I was only 9 when I bought that one.

"she always.." is an outstanding song but the 12" isn't better than the edit version; kinda like the edit version more.

Your kidding? the 12" of SAINH is the best. The ending is worth it alone.

I remember the days when waiting for the B side was like getting an addition to the album. Pure class. When Kiss, and Partyman dropped, I played the b side first. I miss that.
