i LOVE the song. the only part i can't stand is at the end when the horns come in and they're off beat with the damn drums. that shit fucks me up to the point where i have to change the damn track.

The guitar part in Mountains sounds like Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Again) from Sly and the Family Stone to me.
Goodnight, sweet Prince.

He's talking about a-cup boobies standing so high.

One track a REAL Prince fan should have heard at least once in his life is the extended version of Mountains (it clocks over 10 minutes). Maybe Princes most mindblowing piece of music (the song Lovesexy, and Mia Bocca performed by Jill Jones, being the real competitors for me)

During the late eighties i brought the 12 inch vinyl version of this song, and it just struck me with awe, the way this extended version is building up to a climax, is just amazing. It might take some influences from Sly and the Family Stones I want to take you higher, but i dont care, this extended cut lifts me to a higher level wink

I hope one day this song (along with the long versions of songs like She's always in my hair, Shockadelica, Thieves in the Temple) will be released on cd.
I mean... i dont use my recordplayer anymore, its broke sad But when these songs will be released on cd, i will be the first to buy them wink

Mountains is such a kick-ass song. The extended version is incredible too. I need to put that on right now.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I guess I need to hear the extended version too. The album version is okay, but nothing great. It does make one feel good which I suppose is why so many people like it. For me it's one of those songs that works great in the context of the album, but alone doesn't stand out.

I love both the album and extended versions and remember fondly the only time I heard the 12' at a club a long time ago. It's one of Prince's best "quirky" funk songs, with just the right amount of non-funk elements to keep things interesting throughout..

Yes I agree, I love the song and vid! They Make me so happy biggrin . But I have one question, In one part of the vid Prince and the guys are being chased, Prince falls and trips during the chase, so what are they running from? Seems to me like they are running from a balled up piece of paper neutral umm,,,,, yeah paper...

It looks to me like they're running away from his tambourine from earlier in the video, not that that makes any more sense!

I've posted many times about this song, as it's the song that really got me into Prince when it was released as a single in the UK. When it came on TV it sounded like nothing else that was being played at the time, on radio or in the charts. And the 12" is my all time fave Prince track.

I don't get it. Here are the lyrics - nothing to me sounds like a-cup breasts. "Africa divided - hijack in the air" - nope, not boob realted as far as I can see.

can you enlighten me?
