Guess who I met at my work?

I was working another night at the Apple Store in Southdale (Edina, Minnesota) and saw a customer who looked like he needed help. When I asked him if he needed help, I noticed a large gold and diamond NPG necklace around his neck. And then I put two and two together and realized this nice gentlemen was Morris Hayes.

We rapped about his love of doing video and Macs. He stated how he "needed" the Apple 30" Cinema Display and how it would look with his G5.

I asked what he did (pretending to not know who he was) and he said he was in music.

He asked me where I taught graphic design, I told him in Chaska. He said how he just saw a cool little play at our Community Center which was close to his house in Chanhassen.

All and all I talked to him and his wife for about 15 minutes about video, iPods, Macs and how to copy a hard drive.

It was pretty cool, and he was very nice to talk to. A regular guy.

I've met him twice. He was pretty cool both times. the first time I met him, I hit him on the shoulder like I've known him for years. It was pretty funny. I'm sure he thought I was the strangest person in the world.

I'm totally jealous that you work at the Apple Store. I applied, but that was last summer and haven't heard from them. Oh well.

There again, he might have liked to know that all his years in the NPG weren't for nothing - that he is still fondly remembered!

Met him after an aftershow once, when he came out to chat with the fans. A very cool guy.

When I applied, 400 people applied for 7 openings. And I went through three interviews. It's pretty hard to get a job there.

wow! u should have asked y he was wearing the necklace?

He's not part of the NPG no more is he? Perhaps Prince forces his employess and ex employess to wear the neckalce at all times....u should have asked him if he had on the neckalce because he was Prince's man whore. I would have asked him that!

I know it's hard to get in there. A good friend of mine works there, and she had to go through a lot. I'm NOT giving up though.

Wasn't Morris playing on the NAACP performance? Plus, he played at PP last year or the Chicago aftershow. I met him four years ago at the launch party for NPGMC. He was very nice to me.

No offence intended but what's the big deal about working in the Apple store? Ajobisajobisajob. We all just do it for the money so what gives?
Don't get me wrong as I just have a regular crappy job the same as almost everybody else here. Just wondering why people get excited about working for a particular company as if it's a privilege to work for them. Or is it just a US thing as I think most Europeans on here hate the companies they work for lol

Apple treats their employees like gold. They ask a lot, but give a lot in return. For a part-time job, it's cool.

The other nice thing is actually SHOWING people the world of the Mac. And 9 times out of ten they are amazed.

Contrary to rumor sites and popular belief, we get ZERO advance notice on new products. We find out about them the same time the public does. Truth.

Next week.

I almost worked for apple 3 different times over the years, twice as a programmer on their OS, once to help create a new programming language. Every time, they decided they were going to hire me, we were working out the details and a company wide hiring freeze went into effect. I guess it wasn't meant to be. Oh well, instead I get to work at home for myself.

Did you know that when Apple was developing the PowerMac, they were quite seriously considering having Prince to the new startup sound? They eventually went with an in house startup sound.

Was the startup sound going to be "oohwaaaah"?

No, it was gonna be 'No!' (from Alphabet St.) when there was a start-up error and 'Oh Yeah' (from Sign o the Times) when it stated fine...

falloff And a "bomb" would be 'mommy, why does everybody have a bomb?' from 1999.

Incidently, OS 9 let you program any soundbite for any of the various sounds. I used to have Pee-Wee Herman saying 'I meant to do that' for the error sound. I haven't dug into OS X enough to try that out.

I read somewhere on this site that Mr. Hayes was gay - he thanked his partner in the liner notes of Exodus. Not that it matters but I was just wondering.

I spoke to him once at PP. He was very cool. It was the penultimate night of the 2001 Celebration and he told me to expect something special (performance-wise) the next night. We might have got it but the sound system blew up sad
