When non Prince fans ask for a CD that wont put them to sleep with sappy crap like Most Beautiful Girl. I suggest this One. No complaints yet.

And as a final addition , if I Like It There , The Same December and Zannalee
were "only intended for private use" why did
a) make videos for all of the songs
b) play the videos for 2 of the songs before shows on the Gold tour
c) release the 3rd video on the internet a few years back

The album is weak, Prince even said it and PROVED it with that statement inside the the CD, so why is it a CRIME to AGREE with Prince? Seems like you can't believe Prince put out either weak material or subpar material. but its no BAD but no great

I like the first two tracks but the rest of the album is pretty dull.

I'd like to see another C&D type album, it's better than everything he's released since bar TRC.

Great, great guitar sound and in the main live bass and drums!

It's my understanding that Prince has since said this album was mere filler to get out of the WB contract but if thats true..

1. then why did he re-record some of the material prior to release in early 1996
2. and as already stated why shoot videos for Dinner, I like it there, Same December and then promote Dinner and Zannalee on US TV?

It was the lack of promotion by WB that again thwarted its sales, albeit it wouldn't have been a smash hit, and once Prince released this he gave up on the project and moved on.

It's easy to look back with hindsight at certain "failed" projects from this era and say "well my heart wasn't in it".

I was one of those people dogging this CD but I listened to it a couple of months ago and I got to say I really enjoy this album. For a contractual obligation, he sure did a great job putting it together IMHO. Can't mess with songs like I Like It There, The Same December and Zannalee. I wish he'd rock out like this again.

I just love the title track!

Some artists have gone their whole careers without an album as good as this "contractual obligation" album.

This album's way funner than it's follow up Emancipation, if not as deep. It has a better flow and it may be Prince's only real rock record (the real reason I think many people don't like it).

Uh...it's called a CONTRACT, people. It was either honor the terms under the contract, which normally includes junketts and videos to promote the album, or face legal action from the Warner Plantation.
