Umm... Uh isn't that what Prince was when he got with Mayte????? I mean if he wasn't a famous rock star and he was lusting after a sixteen year old everyone would be like ewwwww... The way the lyrics are written, it sounds like a song any old pervert lusting after a little girl could relate to. That's very disturbing. "He realized that she was new to love, naive in every way." That stuff's just creepy and unsettling. Makes it sound like an old guy taking advantage of this poor young girl who doesn't have a clue. Even if that is the true Prince/Mayte story, I don't wanna hear about it in such a graphic way. I'm sure that Prince is no sleazy old pervert lusting after teenagers, but this song sure makes it sound like it. For the record, there's no evidence to suggest Prince lusted after Mayte when she was 16. Only later, when she was a young adult. I love this album. Piece by piece, it's got it's share of problems (Tony M. is only one of them) but overall it's a great, underrated album. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

And lord knows who eles. But I guess younger women are appealing because they haven't grown into their own person yet and can be molded.

Yeah I know, but The Morning Papers sounds like it was written by a 40 year old man who's lusting after a ten year old girl and doesn't understand why it's gross. I love Sweet Baby!
And I have never been bothered by segues, not the Kirstie Alley nor the Beautiful Experience answering machine. Actually I like those. Mayte is a bit corny on the "give back the chains" part, but at least it's better than the stuff on 7 video "a little girl crying inside a mirror....that's her heart, it was golden, golden.." Those make me laugh. I like them too, all of them.

That's essentially what it is, too -just the ages are slighlty closer together than 10 and 40. I seem to remember articles in celeb magazines criticizing him for his taste in women (young!) How old was Prince then, anyway? "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

In my opinion, and I can see why others may argue, is an extremely well put together album. Sonicly is has MANY layers. Prince at the top of his game as a producer. Maybe not as a musician. Some may say it has to many trax, not as in songs, but soundboard trax. We all know Prince can record an album with a 24 track in his basemant...let him have some liberties every now and then. It hits like nobodys business. Covers a lot of styles, but not a minimal style by any means. All the songs fit together. I think it's just great. Pinnicle of the commercial Prince...and I can see why he felt trapped afterwards cuz it was sort of the best he could have done with the "Prince" image at the time. Kind of like how the NPG was disbanded shortly after the release of The Exodus Has Begun. That was the best he could do with that lineup.
