Why the single edits ? disbelief
Those endings ruin the song , imo

I prefer album versions too!
When Doves Cry edited version is scandalous! But I think some single edits are good and I can put more songs on a single disc... wink

Why go to the hassle of making what is essentially the Warner Bros Greatest Hits package? Its just dull.

So you've thrown on about a dozen 'newies' many of which could hardly be called 'hits' - merely singles.

If you were making an introductory LP for your mate you may as well just pass on a copy of the single disc Warners hits package - but if I were to make a compilation of Prince stuff I'd throw on a lot more lesser known tracks mixed in with some of his hits, that way at least you're making something far more personalised.

I agree with the comment that this may be re-treading territory already covered by The Hits compilation.

One thing to consider is to create some playlists by genre, mixing in some live performances. This would help your friend get a sense of all the styles of music that he creates, and to introduce them to songs they've never heard before.

I've done this with my friends. I put a "blues" compilation together for her, and she was surprised to find out that he even did that kind of music. I also put a "slow jam" CD together, and a "Strictly Funk" playlist as well (that includes, for example, Cloreen Bacon Skin). Have fun with.

Plus, in putting it together, it really makes you think about his whole body of work and makes it interesting for you. You can includes music from various time periods. it's actually fun. I'm a bit OC, so I've spent the wee hours of the morning trying to get a playlist just right.

Just a suggestion. I think chrono playlists are not that interesting. Already covered elsewhere.
Come here, babe.. yeah...

Of course it is retreading over "The Hits" collection. However, that was 12 years ago. That mean if someone in the year 2005 wants Prince's "best of" material that you have 12 years to add to "The Hits" plus, they need to hear the songs on the hits (and songs that should have been on like "Batdance"). I mean, I newbie needs to hear the hits way before you give them some obscure/live/bootleg stuff. That is why this compilation is good--it gives a new fan the cream before getting into the deep stuff.
