Lady Cab Driver-All the instruments prince excels at at their funkiest: bass, guitar, drums, synths, his libido, mmmmm mmmm.

Erotic City-One great big P-funk homage, but probably among the greatest club tunes of all time

Alphabet Street-one of my favorite prince songs in terms of rhythm, production and melody; positive funk pop that I'm sure sly stone nods at in approval.

DMSR-Next to Erotic City, it's nasty synth funk at it's best

Let's Work-I think it's a strong contender for the funkiest song of the early 80s, and certainly one of the funkiest in prince's catalogue.

The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker-The kind of deep, haunting, burbling funk that sounds like it belongs in a junkie dungeon (ala sly's Riot and Fresh albums), with lyrics that define "idiosyncratic".

Housequake-EVERYBODY JUMP UP AND DOWN. The holy trinity of prince's nasty club funk tunes is complete

It's gonna be a beautiful night-Prince's best blend of funk and jazz, hands down, I don't care what anyone says. Recalls duke ellington and james brown, but still sounds like prince

Let's Go Crazy-The extended version is one of the best funk-rock tunes of all time

Crystal Ball-A funk tune with the length, complexity and internal variation of a prog rock suite. Prog-funk? that's definitely a sub-genre that I could get used to. (Praxis' Transmutation anyone?)

In no particular order

1) Mountains - the extended (10 minute) version....building up from the origial album-version to a mindblowing soul-funk parade

2) Lovesexy - The title track of the Lovesexy record. Play it LOUD, let the music carry you away, and experience some great Psychedelic-Jazzy-Metal-Gospel-FUNK hybrid.

3) Hide the Bone - Classic, bonedry Princely Funk

4) Superfunkycalifragisexi - Dark and funny at the same time, from the develish laugh at the start to the final line.....In seven measures, i want somebody to....

5) Automatic - Hypnotic electrofunk at his best, a track that tickles your bodymuscles and (psychedelic) soul wink

6) I rock, therefore i am: a fucking HARD beat carrying a dancefloorfiller that incorpates everything: from rap to jamaican toasting, from soullike background vocals from Rosie gaines, to raw guitar work. Genious!

7) Its gonna be a beautifull night: the version from the Sign of the Times - movie, Prince at his top, mixing partyfunk with Ellington / Parker-like interludes and exciting interaction with the public.... A song not only too listen, but watch too also.....I mean, hear the funk and look at the (orchestrated) chaos and joy on stage.... It will put a smile on your face lol

8) Shockedelica: the extended version (dont lay on my guitar, bitch!.....), a dark camille track seemingly dealing with the dangers of drugabuse, but at the same time a sharp, compelling funkjam

9) Partyup: maybe too short to be really called a Jam, but Princes first attempt at trying something like that. Great bassline and the introduction of these sharp, long synthchords which became a signature element of the Minneapolis sound and Prince still uses knowadays (listen to the end of the Everlasting Now and the final of Musicology)....Those kind of chords keep blowing my funky mind, and are one of Princes masterstrokes!

10) Billy Jack Bitch: nothing new for Prince during that period (The Gold Experience), but he just reaffirms his mastership of writing and performing these kind of Prince-tracks. When it was released as a single, it would have probably became a huge (club)hit. I mean, when the Gold Experience was released, THIS was the track all the DJ's were playing on the radio over and over.... A catchy, funk, memorable funktrack
