unreleased 90's 00's songs Prince's vault of unreleased material has reached mythical status. However, when I think about it, I always imagine songs from the 80's. Has anyone heard about how much unreleased material there is from the 90's and beyond. Is there a Tony M album that never saw the light of day? I'm just curious. | |

I was wondering, often Prince register himself as writer of songs even when they are never released - remember a while back we were talking about the song Coca Cola being registered? Following is a list o songs the titles of which I am not familiar with from the ASCAP database. Prince is listed as a writer of each of these songs, most of them are administered by Controversy Music. Can someone tell me whether these songs are on officcial albums, bootlegs, or still remain unreleased? Thx!

IN addition to Boris' fine post , I've placed an asterisk next to the tracks that are "unreleased" but on a bootleg or are released but also on a bootleg with Prince singing as opposed to the artist he gave the song to OK, here ya go... because, all that glitters aint gold and it aint always 4 everyone neither. some of that stuff he probly was just in the studio havin fun with (like extra loveable)or some of it like (this mysterious ass wally) coulda be theraputic 4 him Yesterday is dead...tomorrow hasnt arrived yet....i have just ONE day...

Well from Metalorange's edited list from above, several of those unreleased are from the 80s (70s even). This isn't solely a list of 90s/00s songs (as many will know).
Just to expound on what Boris said above regarding the drying up of leaks and info from PP. Prince tightened up security and staff at PP. at this time (1996) which accounts for the distinct lack of unreleased material seeping into the fanbase after this time (what little has come out has been a tiny trickle of the odd song here or there, or material previously uncirculating, but recorded *before* 1996 - for example the Gold-era and Poet 99 stuff that recently entered circulation - which means it most likely came from people holding out on the stuff, or just discovered it from a source, other than PP). Beyond unreleased music actually getting out, another shame in all this is the fact that information on exactly what has been recorded is scant. At least it stops fans thirsting for songs based purely on the name and saying, why haven't you released blah-blah from the vault yet?!
But my point was, the songs registered on ascap are not leaks - they are Prince protecting his copyrights, I can only assume in case they do leak out and someone else claims they wrote them. If he's stopped bothering to register newly created songs, then it would appear he's pretty confident they won't leak out these days.
