I love this album too.I can't understand why so many people say Prince "sold out" when he made this album.Yeah, the music is commercial but it's still a solid album.Every song is very good, especially "The Future","Partyman","Vicki Waiting","Lemon Crush" and "Batdance".

Electric Chair is just fantastic, as is Lemon Crush.

my intro to Prince. My favorite song from it is probably The Future. Batman himself had a lot to do with it too. I was obsessed with Batman when I was little. looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

Batman is indeed one of Princes most underrated records...its a kind of a return to the dark funksound of 1999 and the Black Album, with the moviesamples and little jokes lightening things up a bit
I think the songs suit the movie perfectly, a shame they seemed to use Danny Elfmans score a lot more on the movie, then Princes songs... Two minor points: - He shouldnt have put Arms of Orion on the record, its to sappy, to MOR and too lifeless, i mean...with a vault as big of his, he could come up with a better ballad then that. - Lemon crush is a mediocre song, he should have put Rave unto the Joy Fantastic on it, i dont mean the dull version he put out in 1999, but the the fast funk/rock track he played on the live-bootleg "Small Club" Otherwise, a nice, little, funkrecord

I must admit I sometimes forget that album.
Maybe just because of the connection with the movie, we don't consider it as a real Prince album. But Electric chair,Partyman(long version even better), Batdance,The Future,Vicky waiting are great stuff. As good as any other and surely better than what he has put out between 97 and 2000 Love4oneanother

I love it - and it was the first prince-album i bought, back in 89 - its the reason I became a Prince-fan (in the first place - some many other reasons after other than this album)
The Future...is maybe the most funky prince-tune IMO Fryd - Always Park The Car Sideways!

It was the first time I was truly dissapointed in a Prince album. Its mostly filler, with lackluster songs. Most of the songs on this album sound like Prince really didn't try at all. A collection of half-baked outtakes that weren't worthy of b-side status. love it. love love and LOVE.
love 'the future', 'electric chair', 'partyman', 'trust', 'batdance', 'lemon crush'...i gotta be in the mood for 'scandalous' and 'vicki waiting', but when i am, they hit the spot... i will, however, agree with JediMaster's sam-i-am-esque antipathy by saying that 'arms of orion' is one of the skankiest caterwauls i've ever heard.

I was really surprised lately when all of a sudden I liked Lemon Crush. Still cannot stand Trust, though. Other than that, good one!

Me neither, but i do like Partyman (fuckin funky!) and lemon crush tho I enjoy the extended verion of Partyman, and I can somewhat enjoy "Electric Chair" and "The Future" when in the mood. "Lemon Crush" is just awful though. One of my least favorite Prince tunes. Its right down there with most of New Power Soul Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. Maybe it should be universally agreed that there are more good songs on "Batman" than there is on "Graffiti Bridge", at the very least?

I think the vocal are just beautiful! hmm...that's jsut me though! yellow smiley offers me X...like he's drinkin' 7up, I would rather drink 6 razor blades...razor blades from a paper cup. I think they're about even, and when GB is good, it is fantastic. "The ? Of U", "Joy In Repetition" and "Thieves In The Temple" are all about 100 times better than anything on Batman Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. I would hardly call it "solid". Its weaker than 75% of his 90s output. I put it barely a scratch above New Power Soul Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Replace 'Trust' with 'Bob George' & 'Arms of Orion' with 'Dance With The Devil' and it woulda been a killer album. I never understood why Dance With The Devil never made it on the soundtrack, it's a perfect fit for the movie.

Yeah , i think it's a great song too
But it might've been a little too "dark" for the album and not be commercial enough

Yeah most forget this is an actual album...not a soundtrack. I think it's a good album by itself. Placed against the rest, I'd have to say it was one of his weaker efforts...especially with the output at the time. He seemed to be a caricature of himself by the time Batman came about. Like "this is what a Prince album is supposed to sound like" It was a bit watered down and pandered to the mainstream. Not to say this wasn't a good album...it was, but he was definitely starting a small rut (even though it appeared he was on fire at the time). I really like this album...though it is one that I listen to the least. ANd I am in the minority of Arms of Orion...I like the song. But only recently. Sometimes his songs have to catch you in the right mood.
He did continue this sound on Graffiti Bridge, but obviously he was petering out of the "Purple Sound". I do think that after this album he was ready for a change in sound and style. Christian Zombie Vampires

Aye, I most definitely agree. There are some great tunes on this disc. Vikki Waiting, Trust, Partyman, and of course, who can forget, Scandalous I wanna be loved to the 9s, so let me cover your ass with this sheet, and baby, you better stay on the beat! Cause you know the Karma Sutra? I can rewrite it. But, with half as many words.
