We're talking first impressions here...
(i bought all vinyl until the '90s)

1. 1999 in 1983 (incredible, unbelievable -- still my fav)
2. Purple Rain in 1984 (not as good as 1999, but rocking! loved it)
3. Controversy in 1984 (thought it was fun as 13-year old at the time)
4. For You in 1985 (so-so at first, now i love it)
5. Prince in 1985 (really liked it at first -- now it's my 2nd fav, beautiful)
6. Dirty Mind in 1985 (pretty cool album, liked it better than Controversy)
(also got The Time, Jesse Johnson, Sheila E., Vanity 6, Apollonia 6, etc).

Then I got each album in order as it was released:
7. Around the World in a Day (loved it... but bored of it soon)
8. Parade (loved it -- played it over and over -- one of my favs)
9. Sign (very different -- lots of things to like here)
10. Lovesexy (this one blew me away, made me cry, gave me chills)
11. Black Album (someone sent it to me -- pretty cool, but low quality)
12. Batman (disappointed, tho i loved a few tracks)
13. Graffiti Bridge (i loved Prince's songs -- a fav for a long time)
14. Diamond & Pearls (not impressed, but the "Gett Off" single was awesome)
15. (didn't like the first few songs, but loved the rest -- still a fav)

Okay, I'll stop here... and just mention the other ones that I loved or hated:

Gold Experience -- loved it at first listen
Exodus -- really disappointed, not so much the music but everything else
New Power Soul -- hugely disappointed, -- i was expecting Lovesexy Part 2
The Rainbow Childre -- hugely pleased -- finally got our Lovesexy Part 2

i got 'purple rain' first, the first month it came out.

a couple months later, on my 14th birthday, i got 'for you', 'prince', 'dirty mind', 'controversy' and '1999'.

after that, i've pretty much always gotten new prince albums the day they came out. i think the only exception might be 'newpower soul'.
