THE GLASSCUTTER DEBATE After several listens I am disapointed to say that this song is overrated twaddle. Initially I felt that it picked up on the first guitar solo and that the track had an interesting reading, but that the basic structure of the song wasn't doing it for me.
Now however, I find it is overated twaddle. Parts of the guitar I've headr PLENTY of times before, and 'sound effects' on the guitar can not disguise its standard fare Prince guitar riff that he has done lots. I reat this track UNDER Supercut, Sexmesexmenot? and SMGroove. And Habibi is WAY better! ! ! ! Is peeps really tripping on this one?

Glass Cutter is the same old "Get Off", "Sexy MF", "Peach" style junk. However, don't complain, Prince usually releases 11 bad songs and one good one. Its the ONE good one he can add to his set list on the next tour.

I can't even remember it, just that it did very little for me, and it got filed away with the rest of the NPGMC stuff. Don't worry, I can't get pregnant - my ovaries are diseased......

(this is a response to the haters , not the song) Hey, we haters of Glass Cutter love good Prince music. We wish we could love his new music and not hate. If Prince wasn't rich, he would be making good music. Maybe if he got rid of all his material possessions, he would once again be inspired. Apostle of the jam.

This to me is the biggest problem with Prince's music of late (post 2000) He has me for about a week or so but after a few listens, the music just doesn't grip me anymore. I think i know what it is, i'm not going to say what it is upon fear of let's say, a righteous flaming. Something evidently is lacking. He's missing edginess in his work, and it's not been there for the last few years. He's just too safe. [Edited 4/10/05 15:28pm]

"I had told myself for a long time that an alcoholic was a guy down the street and that a cocaine addict was a guy with his nose falling off," he said. "I told myself I was smarter than that. I was the guy who could get onstage and make music for thousands of people. I was invincible." And you know if it were revealed tomrrow that Wendy or Lisa had anything to do with the making of this song it would all of a sudden be "a classic". By the way I like the cut. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Personally I think this song has plenty edge about it. Funky stuttering beat, the Voice lazy, sleazy and for me that guitar just rips it up! Plus he's being dirty again!!! Boom the old prince is back.

I love this song.
For some reason it reminds me of "Y Should Eye do That," although they don't sound much alike. Alot of people hate on that song, too, but it's one of my favorites from the Music Club days.

Nah, this song's awesome.
It's everything I want Prince's music to be again-Edgy, not plain or derivative, and grows on you with every listen. That guitar is awesome too, and the lyrics are cool as hell. Classic Prince. If this is the music that's gonna be appearing on the new album, I'm fucking excited. [Edited 4/11/05 13:00pm] The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I agree 100%. It immediately reminded me of that song. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.
