Prince's gospel sound

I was just wondering if there are any tracks from P that are really gospel sounding kinda like "Still would stand all time." That's a pretty good song in my opinion and I think he captured a part of gospel in that song nicely. Can you think of any? Thanks

Prince was once asked if he would ever consider recording a gospel album. His response was: "I already have. It is called Lovesexy."

Pasquerto,

When your looking for Prince (and friends) doing some gospel, in MUSICAL terms, try to find the dvd / cd (?) The sacrifice of victor (I dont this is an official release, i have it taped on VHS from MTV in the nineties). He's doing some Gospel songs on that with Mavis Staples and The Steeles (a small gospel choir). But mind that those artists are singing those songs, Prince is just fooling around on these songs, playing guitar or sitting on the speakerbox, swinging his legs like a little kid wink

Indeed, Prince has done some gospellike tracks on Lovesexy, but that was gospel in words only, the music being a pastiche of funk, rock, jazz, soul and (psychedelic)pop and on The Cross, wich musically is in the vein of sixties Ragga-rock, but apart from How Come U dont call me anymore? and the song you mentioned, Still would stand all time, I cannot remember Prince doing any kind of songs in a gospelmusic-style

But i might have forgotten some songs, I mean, that little fellow, has released so many songs, maybe there are more wink

None of the songs on Lovesexy are gospelsounding (maybe the opening track, I know sounds a bit gospellish, but the other songs certainly dont).....The LYRICS on this record are Princes interpretation, the music certainly isn.

It was officially released in 1995 on video and laserdisc - a recording from the performance in London in 1993.

Ok, I prolly shouldn't post this yet cos I need all my info but that is what an edit is for. In the NAACP performance recently he did a song whose music was ripped right out of an old gospel song. My friends and I were watching and her husband who is a music director at our church named it. I will edit this and tell u which song he did. But a lot of rnb and blues music is actually gospel music with secular lyrics. His bluesey/old skool style cannot help but do what everyone else already has... borrow from great music.

Everywhere and Everlasting Now from Rainbow Children.

Thank God he doesn't do much traditional gospel though
Thinking...Prince with a back up choir... ill
