"That Skinny MF With The High Voice" Has anyone heard a CD called "That Skinny MotherFucker With The High Voice"?
I heard that it is a CD of Prince covers. This morning on my local community radio station there was a show called "Art in your ear". The host played "Girls & Boys" performed by a band named "Dump". She mentioned the CD & she said it was all Prince covers. She did not say who else was on the CD. I emailed her to thank her for playing it and mentioning Prince. Anyone else heard of this?? By the way, I did not like the Dumps version of "Girls & Boys". The orginal is much better. I am not just saying that because I am a Prince fan...

i have this album and i love it. when you listen to dump's album of prince covers, you have to keep in mind that it's prince interpreted through a different style of music - it's kinda like what his songs would have sounded like if he'd been in pavement or some other kind of lo-fi indie rock garage band. i don't think dump intends to 'better' prince's songs - they're just giving their take on his music as fans. of all the prince tribute stuff out there, this CD is my favorite. i'd go so far as to say it's the only one you really need.

Thanks for the info! Where did you purchase it? i found it at a wrecka stow in lincoln square, here in chicago. i think it's pretty easy to order online, though...i nearly went that route till i found it on one of my countless record shopping binges. try going to froogle.com and typing in the title of the album - i bet you can find it for cheap.

Covers always just make me wanna hear the original Prince versions. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

it's a fun collector's item. he does a few prince covers that you don't usually hear people do, like 'an honest man' and 'a love bizarre', and the artwork is fun (though a little scary). i hardly listen to it regularly, but it's something i'm glad i have. it's a good show-and-tell item when people are looking at my prince stuff.

That phrase is from "Bob George" from The Black Album, I didn't know they had a cover of that, interesting.

nah, 'bob george' isn't on the dump album - it's just the title.

While I still haven't heard this CD, I can offer a small bit more info on it. "Dump" is actually the side project of Yo La Tengo's James McNew. As far as I know, the Prince tribute angle of it even extends to the fact the McNew plays everything on it himself -- could be wrong about that one, though...
Anyway, if you wanna here great indie rock, check out Yo La Tengo. "And Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out" is a personal favourite of mine, although it's more low-key then their earlier work... Peace.
