In high school I was THE Prince fan of our school. I remember once for a class everyone got assigned another student about whom you had to write an essay about what you knew about them, and what you thought they would like to be given as a gift or some such stupid thing and the guy that got my name pretty much focused on how much I loved Prince and what a huge fan I was, and all this Prince related stuff in regards to me. I was embarassed. confused Actually at that point I didn't even realize my Prince fandom was *that* notorious among my fellow students, that they would identify Prince=me like that.

Nowadays just my family and very close friends are aware of how much I love Prince. I'm not as vocal and flamboyant about my fandom as I was when I was younger, I guess.

Wow, It looks like we all go through the same things. Some people at my job would cut out news clippings or let me know what magazine they saw a Prince article in. Even my mother would do the same. People at work would say that I resemble Prince (as if it would make me happy or something) but I never believed them because I figured they were just saying it because they know I like Prince. But this 1 girl that didn't know I was in2 Prince came up 2 me and said that she saw the Oscars and she thought of me when Prince came on stage. And yes the name change era were trying times! I felt like 1 of Prince's PR people always being asked and having 2 explain 2 these people that "no Prince didn't loose his mind", Not really anyways. smile

yea. well i have Prince shirts too so it's not like im tryin to hide anything. all my friends know, and if i don't tell people that i love Prince when i first meet them ( i usually let that come up later) then my friends will tell that person first. they'll be like
'yea this is Tess, she loves Prince. she's also crazy...'
all that fun stuff. the only song that people sing to me though is Purple Rain. they need to learn new ones. my one friend martha sang me Darling Nikki once though, that was funn. lol

very much so. unfortunately, whenever my friends (just the non-musicians, the ones who play at least respect him) hear me talk about Prince, they roll their eyes and tell me how weird i am. OR how gay/stupid/old he is.

makes me wanna chair them.

that happens to me too. ur not alone! i will share this with u! and the chair with u as well. it's annoying as hell isn't it, when people can even respect the man for his genius!

10 years ago yes.. but now? Nope

I'm in2 too much other good music right now and
while other acts are evolving in different directions
Prince hasn't been doing anything especially new for a good long while.

Yes, everyone knows I am a Prince fan - my friends, my family, my co-workers. I have a shrine at my office, at home, in my car, on my license plate, etc. They even call me when they hear any little tidbit about him. My phone rings off the hook when he's on TV. They bring me newspaper clippings, purple stufff and any other Prince related things! .

I'm a trumpet player and people always assume that I must listen to Jazz or Classical stuff (which I do a bit). They find it hard to believe when they find out just how much of a Prince fan I am! Most people here in Brisbane, Australia, think Prince is just some '80s pop has-been (much in the same mould as Michael Jackson). My family on the other hand are always telling me stuff I already know. Like my Dad will come home from work and say "Hey, I read in the paper that Prince blah blah" and I'll be like "Yeah, I knew that already!"

So at work the other day I'm in this department meeting and as an ice breaker they have these silly questions that they go around the room and ask everyone and each person answers one and we're supposed to get to know each other better. So when they get to me, my question is "Who's the most famous person you've ever met or been in the presence of?" And the guy asking the question goes, wait, I think I can guess. And the entire room of 20 or so people chime together "Prince!"
giggle
It's not that I talk about him incessantly or anything. I just have a few small pics at my desk and this being Minnesota, everybody asks me about them.

So how bout you?

yeah, my neighbors who only hear P when im into my groove; at school (college) when I get to class they all know I have to check the P site first and one always tells me to tell P hello (although I reply he's not up yet, gee), and another college student who tells me every change he gets that P is gay and I reply he's had more women than your nasty butt will ever get cool but yet i really don't care wht anyone thinks of me for being P fan, he's got it and they don't (my attention that is)

nod My son really gives me a hard time...my friends tease me...constantly...they know I can hear a P song anywhere (mostly dance standards in the clubs, this IS CO! hrmph) and rely on me to do that...I have a couple of pictures at work...and a shelf at home (nothing compared to some orgers I am sure)...so yep! I am known as a Prince fan! And proud of it! heart
