Strange Relationship Oww-oof!
Woof! Woof! Butcherdog says that he was listening to the track 'Strange Relationship' yesterday. He notes that the lyrics appear extrememly personal, perhaps some of the most honest and open he has ever written. buthcherdog asks, how often has Prince said "sorry" on a record? Butcher recall him appologising to his creator on the track 'Temptation' but can't seem to recall another instance, other than Strange relationship, when he has openly appologised to another person. The SOTT album revealed some of Princes most mature lyrics. In the past Prince often wrote from the perspective of the guy who's woman is messing him around and praising lust over love. However, strange relationship see's Prince taking responsibility for his own actions "I take all the blame, yo' baby i'm sorry". Butcherdog thinks that the honesty and vulnerability of the words are masked somewhat by the light hearted and 'poppyness' of the actual music.Butcherdog says that the solo piano version he performed on livesexy video is raw, soulfull and his preffered version. I hadn't really thought of it like that B4. Sure, I've always liked the song but i didn't really consider the honesty of the words until now. i think it's because, like you say, the music doesnt really fall into that mold of 'serious song'. It almost sounds joyous its that upbeat musically with its sing-along da da dah..da da..da da dahh. I think he did a version of this on the boot 'intimate moments' and he sings it really bluesy. In that context i think that the words really hit home. Gonna have to dig that cd out now!
What a smart hound you are! good doggy. You'll never know a girl called Nikki and you'll never find Erotic City

ALL I FUCKING KNOW IS IS THAT STRANGE RELATIONSHIP IS THE BEST SONG ON THIS GREEN EARTH! IT'S MY FAVE OF ALL TIME AND WILL REMAIN SO EVEN WHEN I'M DEAD AND GONE. (takes caps off) Now, I don't know who it's about, but it's very religious in a way, he goes from the devil to this girl he's with and how bogus they treat eachother, now that's STRANGE right there. Anyway, I just LOVE the song, and am proud to say that I will continue to rock to it past my dying days. ------;;;;;'

cinnamonjo says she thinks that the song is one of the most underrated he's written. It can be applied to many different kinds of relationships, its universal.
She also recalls him usually pleading, demanding or lamenting-- never really apologizing. The song is unique in that sense. The poppiness masks the sorrow seeping from the pores of that song. Dynamic Savior Said: Also, do you think that ugly people are God's cruel joke on humanity (like the platypus and the heterosexual) or another form of population control?

I've always preffered the Dream Factory version over the SOTT one. I love the intro to it.

Susan...Wendys twin sister. This song isn't about Susannah. It's originally from 1981 or 1982, way before he met Susannah. The Normal Whores Club
