I think y'all need to cut these ladies some slack. This was the late 80's rap was just coming to the fore and hadn't gone gangsta yet. A lot of the ryhmes back in the day sounded childish in comparison tot he rap of today. Prince wasn't from Cali or New York sourounded with the sounds of the day, Plus he's Prince, trying to put his spin on it...which is why I think he had chicks rapping and posturing to begin with...so him to be the opposite of whats out. Even down to his asymetrical suits he wears 2day next to every1's perfectly square symetrical homages to whored out designers.

well I think the cat rap is the best part of the song.... it sounds hard and ghetto, and I think the lyrics of it are great...

the Cat rap is fine....

a more serious example of a rap-like break destroying a song is Love 2 the 9's....one a prince's best songs at least up until 2:12 (recovers at about 4:50 or so)....one more verse and an edit and this song could have saved o+>.

Thank you rudeboynpg for this pic !!! Prince is the sexiest when he makes those faces of his. this is the "Tsss, I don't know."

As for that damn Cat rap.... this is what gets me...

On the Warner Brothers 3 disc set "The Hits/B-sides" they have the nerve to leave in that whooole ridiculous rap, but then decide to cut "When Doves Cry" in half !!

They are total idiots !! .... IDIOTS I SAID !!!

the tone of cat's voice on that rap sounds completely wild and ghetto, especially becaus ethere is no pause for breath by the time she reaches "horny pony", it sounds like its crazy.. That's for sure! Much more so than Prince's voice. Its the best part of the song for me, and I can't figure out why they cut it... but I like the black album too. Now i'm a guy that hated MC HAmmer, New Kids, Marky Mark, Vanilla Ice back then and had Fear of a BLack Planet on 24/7.

But its all abstract interpretation. I think that "Push It" saltnpeppa has a ghetto as crazy tone to it too.

Hmmm...This kind of reminds me of when I first heard the song The Continental, from the Symbol album. It is a hard driving funk-rock song, that turns more than halfway to the "Tell Me How U Wanna B Done" closer, that in my opinion, just takes away from the whole track.

Remember, we're talking about a genre that had Blondie rapping about a monster that eats cars. And if there's one thing I've seen about early rap, it's that profundity didn't really mean all that much. Kinda like how rock-n-roll was in the beginning, with talking about dances and silly teenage love songs.

I get the feeling that if Alphabet St. had been released in '90-'92, you guys would be talking about how lame it is (the rap).

But it's Lovesexy, that perfect album that has no faults right? CAUSE ITS A TRIP!

I think they were saying they wish the video was longer so that the rap would be in there.

It's in the Lovesexy '88 Video I love Shelia's face when she is doing the weird noise bit at the end of the rap with her hand shioved in that tubey thing (I won't even try to spell the sound!)
In the distance a light shines and I know it is mine. Someday I will touch it because it calls me. It says cross the line, cross the line. I know everything is not always what it seems, so I pinch myself daily just in case it's a dream

yep, totally agree. it's not a bad rap at all....it's fruity and yeah, very ghetto. Tony M was much worse.

Cat sounds like she walked in from playing in the open fire hydrant in brooklyn, stole a little girls jump rope, and shouted the rap out....
