Prince and Tori Amos??

hmmm

I got stuck on this thought since they've added Tori's
latest video "Sleeps with Butterflies" to the vids over
at the npgmc video room.

It says something like "a current favorite" or something
and I was wondering if Prince is aware of her body of
work or wether it's just the occasional song he knows.

She's enough of a real artist for Prince to take a real
interest in her music, I'm sure.

She acknowledged him in her song "Wednesday" and I guess
he's either returning a favor or they're hinting at some
things in the future.

I for one would love for the two of them to work together.
Although I'm completely unaware of what it would come off
sounding like.

Especially since Tori is drifting further and further from
her old 'signature' sound and more and more into a weird
kind of mixbag sound.

nod

yes I have. It's wonderful. I like most of her covers. She has that
rare ability to take almost any song and make it her own just by
stripping it down to it's bare structure and sing it whilst she
accompanies herself on the piano.

They are two very intense people. I'd think it could be really great or really ugly. Especially since Tori has had abuse issues and Prince is a control freek.

Doesn't she have a new live DVD?

The live DVD, 'Welcome To Sunny Florida' was released last year.

I thought I read somewhere that Prince and Tori already recorded a song together and it's in the vault. I could be wrong.

I've seen Tori perform "Purple Rain" live here in NY and I agree it's really good. Other people disagree apparently judging from the votes it's getting in the 'worst Prince covers' thread: http://www.prince.org/msg/7/138891

"Hey Jupiter' was actually developed from her live cover of "Purple Rain", so its not shocking that you hear a similarity.

My ex-wife used to do them as a medley when she played live!

That shit would make me drop dead from the shear excitement of it all. Just resesitate me long enough to hear what it sound like. Oh god, if they went on tour together. I'd just quit my job and put all my stuff in my mama's house and follow them around.

I highly recommend this dvd live set. It is a must have! Hell, if u dont like it, I'll refund your money! lol

I saw her new video on NPGMC. I always dreamed of them working together. It would be a dream come true to hear something that they had worked on 2gether. I still have my fingers crossed.

Me too.

I've heard Tori discuss Prince many times and it's clear that she loves his work.

Her favorite Prince song is "Condition of the Heart" and I've been requesting that she do a cover of it on this coming tour.

If they did collaborate, I would love to hear something in a funky or gospel vein, a la "Beulah Land" or "Witness".

They could harmonize together something fierce!

this could just be him giving her some props. she had some serious legal battles with her former record label (which just coincidentally is owned by warner) and she speaks of this, and prince, in a chapter of her recent book. there wa sa rumour, however, that on one of her stops in mpls the two got together and worked on something. whether that's true or not, or if the work was ever finished, is unknown.

going by her body of work and the subject matter, i'd be surprised to hear that they are working on something. its probably just prince trying to show respect to someone who went through what he went through.

Tori and Prince together?

I respect each of them... they're probably two of my all-time favourite artists... but together, I don't think it'd work.

Usually when two artists duet, it ends up sounding a lot more like one artist than the other ("Love Song" by P and Madonna for example).

I can't imagine Tori singing a Prince record and I definately can't picture Prince singing a Tori record.

Recipe for disaster.

I doubt it'll happen. Prince only likes to work with shitty artists these days.
