Yeah, I remember Prince saying that when MJ sent him the lyrics and he saw "Your butt is mine" that he was immediately uncomfortable. He said, "Who is saying that to whom? I didn't want him saying that to me and I darn sure wasn't going to say it to him!"

Anyways, what he said (though not verbatim) was this:

He then goes on to say, "Thriller was a phase, Purple Rain was a phase, and Like a Virgin was a phase" in history that wasn't worth trying to recaptured. Basically he was making a case for the fact that the past is great and all, but trying to recapture it or compete with it is pointless.
