I am still hoping Prince will win an Oscar FOR ACTING. That would be like pulling a rabbit out of his hat. The right project would have to present itself. For instance, a while back there was talk of him making a movie about blues guitarist Robert Johnson. (Anyone see the "Crossroads" movie from the 80's?) I think this type of movie project would be ideal for several reasons:

- It would display Prince as a phenominal guitarist.

- Be a period piece that is in the style of "Color Purple," "Fried Green Tomatoes," and the recent Oprah-produced made-for-TV movie "Their Eyes Were Watching God."

- Prince is ideal in stature (size) for the role... and, even at almost 50, he could still pull-off Johnson's appearance.

Another cool role that would suit him would be to play Jimi Hendrix. If Jimi's estate ever decides to give the okay on such a project(movie) which is unlikley. They have axed possible movies before and most recently with Will Smith wanting to play Jimi. God forbid, If I were his estate, I would of axed the project too. Will Smith....? Geeeeez! Prince would suit this role to a tee and wouldn't need any overdubes to do it. He could play it live kinda like Val Kilmer did in the Doors movie (as jim m.) It would be awesome!!

- Prince can show audiences he can play more than just himself in front of the camera by actually having the opportunity to ACT.

- The musical genre may not be popular (with the exceptions of "Moulan Rouge" and "Chicago") but a dramatic spin with musical elements cries out to be Oscar worthy.

- Think of the acoustic soundtrack we would get from such a film... another category to steal come award season!

- Someone else, such as Spileberg or Ms. Winfrey herself, should produce or direct the film. (Not Prince!) Surround him with a supporting cast of brilliant actors... tell the story in a unique way... and let Prince play the blues and convey the story to the audience.

As for MAJOR surprises, Prince has had a terrific year. The Top tour, money-making strategies, numerous public appearances (making-up for all the years he was absent), and awards and honors galore! To make a movie and receive kudos for it -- some 20 years after "Purple Rain" -- would truly be a deserving surprise.
