What were Princes WORST Albums???

It seems like everyone thinks "Sign 'o' Times" is one of the best albums as well as "Lovesexy," but what albums do you least like of Prince?

I have not heard enough of Prince to know yet...but, I really did not like "The Rainbow Children."

Peace

I Just Heard the "Question of U" for the 1st time...MY GOD that is an awsome song. That is #1 right now. I gotta go & listen 2 it again! WoW!

I guess I like the underdogs. "Rave" and "The Rainbow Children" are both in my top half of Prince's albums. My least favorites would be "New Power Soul" (he didn't even promote this as his), "Black Album" (thank God he released Lovesexy instead), and "For You" (it seems a bit unaccomplished).

The worst albums? Keep in mind that even on his "worst" albums, there are still a lot of great material.

New Power Soul
Chaos & Disorder
Come (divided on this one)
1-800-New-Funk
and probably his very first album For You

Still, you could get at least 1 album of good stuff from the above albums. So in that regard they're still worth having.

New Power Soul & Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic.

There are great songs on both albums, but the complete albums, as a whole just don't do anything for me.

Put together they would make for a nice album though, if you replace the four worst trax on rave with "Come On", "Wasted Kisses", "The One" and "Mad Sex".....

Shotgun: that WOULD make a pretty decent album! A nice mix of pop and hip-hop.

Oy! Black album is just great. Took some time, but it keeps getting better and better. Some classics on the black album for sure.

And for you! This one is at the top of my list, just because there is no single bad song on the disc. Most albums have either one or two songs that totally mess up the vibe. With for you is from the beginning to end a breath of fresh air imho. There might not be sure-hit-classic on there, okay. But compare graffiti bridge to for you, maybe then you get my point. Two or three extremely good songs (on graffiti bridge) with a lot of filler, makes a bad album. All good songs makes a terrific album. Well, and then there's Rave. ALL bad songs. Yes even Pretty man sucks! TGRES is probably the best song in there, and that's just mediocre.

Also, the 'work in progress' cd made me appreciate for you much more.

In my opinion, the "worst" Prince album is COME. I haven't played that album since the year it came out.. in what, '93?
I kinda liked "Pheremone" but the rhythm was too fast, which basically killed that song for me.
The rest of it.. whatever.
It's easy to get the sense that Prince really wanted to stick it to WB with this 1.

"Chaos & Disorder" I never got into, other than "Dinner With Delores".. there was a video for that, right? Haven't played that 1 since it came out either.
Another "screw you, WB!" release..

"Grafitti Bridge" was okay yet inconsistent, weak enough for me to include on this "worst" list.. although "We Can Funk" is QUITE solid..
that "Tick Tick Bang" song... totally over my head; I thought "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?"

"New Power Soul" was a joke, like he just wanted to put ANYHING out, just to have a record out in the store. VERY contrived, by Prince's (usually high) standards, definitely FOLLOWING the trends rather than setting them. Doug E. Fresh didn't add anything great to this album, either.

Consequently NPS was the last "Prince" record I bought. I was so disappointed in it as a whole, I still haven't sufficiently "recovered" from that 1 to buy "Rave" or "Rainbow Children"..
I'm that far removed, you could say..

In fact, I like to say that I'm a "recovering" Prince fan..
I STILL regularly play everything he did from "la belle époque" of 78 through 87, plus certain very good songs from everything after that..
no I don't hate him, no he hasn't (nor does he generally) disappoint me.. he & I have "grown in different ways"
&
having grown up on his BEST music from the belle époque.. me personally, I am simply NOT going to settle for less than what I know this extremely talented person is capable of doing.

I suppose I'll eventually get "Rave" & "Rainbow Children"..
either, once they're in the cutout bin OR preferably, when someone burns either of those onto a cd for me. In the meantime, I can wait..

While I'm waiting, I'm still digging other music- Steely Dan, india.arie, Norah Jones, several others whose names escape me at the moment

If Prince ever again decides to REALLY start kicking ass musically..
I'll be 1 of the 1st in that line

until then, life goes on!

the harder you try
the more you get.. satisfaction
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Hehe- I like Graffiti Bridge a LOT, and think that pretty much all of For You is filler. But that is the wonderful thing about Prince. He has so much from which to choose.

I actually happen to like "Chaos and Disorder." There are a few really great songs on it. I think that if Prince would have released "I Like It There" as a single it would have been successful. He could have even released it to rock radio (It reminds me kinda of Lenny Kravitz). But that's just me.

If you are a true Prince fan and not just a time to time listener, I think you'll discover none of his albums suck! Believe me there is a time and space for every last one of them. Tried and True!

But why? there's so many good songs on that CD--The Question of U and Joy in Repetition are just oozing with guitar, and who can keep from dancing to We Can Funk? I think it was a little unfocused (Tick Tick Bang made no sense to me), but musically there's too much to like for me to hate or rate it as his worst. 1-800-NEW-FUNK wasn't very good so I'll give that my nomination.

All this New Power Soul bashing. I didn't mind it...not the best, but not the worst. My Gawd..Chaos & Disorder was shameful. (haven't listened to it for enjoyment, ever!) At least we'er all on the same track;aside from the ATWIAD dialouge!

I rather liked the COME album, "Loose", "Dark","Solo", and "Let it go", it had a lot of good stuff on it. I like it better than Diamonds and Pearls.

Deifinitely Rave - all the others have at least one great song on (Come on saves NPS) but Rave doesn't have one song that I would ever play to a Prince rookie or put on one of the many tapes I've made for friends. It's just boring!
