"LOTP" live = JB's "Hot Pants" After having seen the Musicology tour twice and *ahem* hearing a number of live recordings of the shows, I've always gotten hung up on why "Life of the Party" sounds so good live and loses a whole lot on the Musicology CD.
Earlier tonight, I broke out my James Brown 40th Anniversary Collection double-CD and heard "Hot Pants" -- BAM...it hit me. The music Prince played during the live performances of "Life of the Party" was EXACTLY "Hot Pants." The horn vamp (that usually led into "LOTP" right after "U Got the Look") and everything thereafter was "Hot Pants" line for line, with the lyrics of "LOTP" sung over it. Don't believe me? Just play "Hot Pants" at the 2:37 mark or so and listen to the horns...it's unmistakable. Anyone else notice this earlier than slow-poke me, nearly a year after seeing the first Musicology show? No wonder LOTP sounded so freakin' awesome live! Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. More info at https://www.facebook.com/TMATSPodcast/

Well, settle down...at least I was smart enough to have JB's stuff in my collection so I could jog my freakin' brain into reality! Seriously...was this discussed at length when the Musicology tour was goin' on? Because all I remember is practically everyone saying how great the song was live and how it wasn't nearly as good (or sucked altogether) on the album. LMAO!!! That's what I'm saying! I thought it was common knowledge that LOTP live was actually LOTP lyrics rapped over JB's "Hot Pants"! Glad he's finally caught up to 2004, at least.

I bet many a people left the Musicology show thinking that was completely an original piece by Prince. For shame, for shame...

SOME of us are young enough to have to catch up with JB on the greatest hits b/c we weren't around to hear it as a new release...

I guess I'll cancel my plans for a "did you know Prince references 'Hot Pants' in the title track of 'Musicology'" thread...
