I would like to thank Prince for getting me into Prince. Because since my friend took me to see the movie Purple Rain, and once I saw Prince play, things have never been the same. woot!

well, my only thanks goes out to Prince for wearing that wonderful canary yellow assless skin tight suit at the music awards, thanks to who ever sewed that sexy suit together for Pirnce.

Thank you to Arsenio Hall for allowing prince to perform on your show that night and allowing him to return a second night and thank you Arsenio for letting him be the only guest that night or whatever, thanks to my dad for letting me stay up late and watching, those sexy Prince performances had
so much influence on my preteen years at the time and I vowed to one day get one
good grab of Prince's booty and then run....but that has yet to happen. sad

I wanna thank my Pops for getting me into this talented individual. If it wasn't for him and my mom watching PR, Cherry Moon and SOTT0 when I was a kid, I probably wouldn't be into him that much. Also since my father was a musician as well, I couldn't help but be around music whether it was P, Jesse Johnson, Cameo, Sly stone.. etc. But like I said I wanna thank my Pops. biggrin

I'd like to thank my old friend Josh for exposing me to the Hits/the B-sides when I was little, and then taking Girl 6, Emancipation, the Beautiful Experience, and Crystal Ball with us on a road trip to Tahoe a long time ago. I just regret becoming a fan so late.

The Girl that showed me the way to P was named Susan.

She was the older sister of one of my best friends.
She had a copy of Purple Rain that she recorded to cassette for me and when I listened to the abulm I was blown away.

I thought to myself, "You know, that Bitch looks like he's sucked off every dude on my football team, but he sure can play that damned guitar!!!!"

I was in love.

No one turned me on to Prince. I think I happened to be at the right place at the right time which was in my Grandparents room when the LRC video came on and I wondered who the guy in the high heeled boots was when I was 4. However, I do thank my Uncle for getting the Purple Rain album the same time I got to Florida for my first visit there when I was 9. Once I heard the album and finally saw the movie, I knew was hooked. I got to thank Mom for buying the albums for me.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Mine tops everyone's.

I'm going to thank...Backstreet Boys. Yes, those Backstreet Boys.

Time upon a once I was a shameless pop fan. All I'd had access to was the local Top 40 radio station. That' all I knew, so that's all I listened to. My parents owned what I now know was some incredible music by incredible artists, but being the all-knowing preteen that I was, I'd refused to give any of it a listen, dismissing it as old folk's tunes.

Backstreet Boys were my all-time favourites. (istilllovethemandfuckyouifyoudon'tlikeit) I'd keep up with every little thing about them, read every article, watch every interview, etc. It didn't take me long to notice that every time they were asked who their favourites were, instead of naming other pop acts, they'd mention all sorts of artists that were in my parents "old folk" vinyl collection. Led Zep, The Beatles, The Stones, The Temptations, Chuck Berry -you name it, one of them had mentioned the act at least a few times as a favourite. But another name that kept being brought up fairly consistently was Prince -someone I only knew because the paparazzi page on a magazine I'd bought had referred to him as "Mr. Squiggle".

The more BSB (specifically Kevin and AJ) raved about just how fucking great Prince was, the more it piqued my interest. Then I heard "Let's Go Crazy" on the 80's flashback hour on the radio. This "Prince" guy was fucking great! I mentioned all this to a friend. She, having no fucking clue, asked her dad who Prince was. He rented Purple Rain, and sat us down to watch it. That Christmas, among my presents from their family was the Purple Rain CD.

And there she stands. smile

I want to take this opportunity to thank a few people that got me into Prince, cuz if it wasn't for them, I probably wouldn't be here.

1st and foremost is my friend from grammar school Eric Martin, who KNEW all about the purple man way before most people I know. I was really really into him. I went to my first P concert with him. We lost touch after HS and then got reaquainted later on in my early 20's and then drifted again. He may actually be on one of these boards. I can't imagine him not being a fan anymore.

2nd is my friend Mark who ended a long P hiatus in my life and got me back on the P (also the first time I recognized Ballad of D Parker

and 3rd word Be Derek, who, during a night of P conversation (he's a huge fan) found out I had no idea about unreleased recordings and took me to his apt and played for me Little Girl Wendy's Parade and There's other's here with us. I have never been the same.

Thank you Eric, Mark and Derek...for showing me the way to the P.

Yeah, thanks Reginald Criddle of New Orleans, LA. Thanks for showing me the "Purple Light"

Remember "Be Social" (smile)

(I wonder if you're out there on the org.)

That actually confirms what I believed a few years back. I remember watching some BSB special on MTV and Kevin mentioning Prince as one of his favorites. I knew that that would spark an interest in the lil'man for someone. Cool story meow85.
