I might be totally wrong, but i always love a bit of brainstorming, especially when it comes to one of my favorite posts.

From what i read lately on different Prince forums, i am guessing the following about the record Prince will release this year:
- Yes, i think it will really carry the name '3121', Prince is teasing us with this number/title on TV-performances and in the aftershow-reports on NPGMC frequently, and being a Prince fan for almost 20 year now, i think the guy is building up anticipation for this album in this way.
- I think some former Prince bandmates were involved in this recording. Different reports talked about "a revolutionary sounding" album recorded with some "old friends".....revolution(ary) sounding.....a reunion with Wendy and Lisa? i also read reports about Prince going into the studio again with Michael Bland and Sonny Thompson (personally, my all time favorite rhythem section used by Prince)...Maybe wishfull thinking, but Michael and Sonny laying out a steady, sobre, stark beat, with Wendy and Lisa helping Prince in providing some subtlety and twists in the melodies, would sound like heaven to me
- I think their will be oriental influences on the record: during the NAACP-awards Prince wore a shirt with the letters '3121' on his back, written in Japanese style, and his mansion in LA during recent aftershows was decorated in oriental style, while visitors where asked to wear kimono's...
- I think the new record will be a continuation of the sound from Musicology: music that is traditionally sounding, halve acoustic, not too many synths, but i think he will spice up the things with some world-music (oriental) and psychedelic-pop elements. I mean, when Wendy and Lisa are involved with this recording, it wouldnt be strange to think some of the sound of albums like Around the World in a day and Parade will shine trough....

These are just my guesses, i am curious about yours

i think he's building up a 'feel' for the album, and once it actually drops, it'll fill in the blanks as to what he's been on about so far this year. you're right in that this is the kind of thing prince always does before a new record. we'll just have to see...

i will throw-up in Anxiety's soup if this album is titled 3121.

wasn't the "revolution" sounding album an april fools day thing? i haven't heard owt else about it apart from that post

the sonny t m.bland thing was confirmed by bland i think at one point, can't remember the post but someone asked him. however, i think the idea of that was for prince to finish the album alone, ie without anyone be it wendy and lisa and as this news came out AFTER wendy said her and lisa were going to record a new album with him soon maybe princes plans changed, or there were completely seperate, for all we know he coudl have recorded BOTH albums by now!

the songs we have, glass cutter, satisfaction, i agree with you are a progression from musicology, but are also SANS anyone but prince...so we'll see i guess! i am looking forward to this album based on those songs though, can't wait

I had a dream the other night. Prince's new album was a '1999' for the 00's, a full-on funky party album, amazing beats and rhythms, screaming guitars and wailing vocals.

It was called 'Linn Dreams'.

Softandwet, the 'revolutionary sounding album' definately wasnt a april fools thing.....reports about that thing were released in february, as far as i can remember

Just thinking: if 'revolutionary sounding album' doesnt mean the involvement of Wendy and Lisa or other Revolution-members, i wouldnt walk away when Prince pushes the start button on his drum machine, and that he does let Clare Fischer take his duties on the orchestral arrangements

I mean, those sound of hard, electronic beats combined with real orchestra...The sound that Prince was experimentating with during the period 1985 - 1987 (the Family album, the Parade record, Jill Jones debut-cd)...Prince was at his genious peak for me during that period

Anyways, who wrote somewhere that Prince would release an acoustic album this year, re-working his 'hits'? That sounds like something he would do, would be easy and fairly profitable. 3121 sounds like an album of new material to me.

The Usher album carried that title for the fans... It was supposed to get released on a certain day, but when the day came close they would just push it farther back. The label did this like 3 times and the fans got pissed, so they named it with the date as the title so they would know for sure that it wouldn't be delayed anymore.
