"When the Lights Go Down" is absolutely amazing! I like the rest of the album as well (OK I could do without Little Pill), but WTLGD is classic. I love the huskiness in his voice. I love the sound and vibe of the band.
Does anyone know who's playing piano on this track? I assume it's Prince, but never knew for sure. I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

There are people/fans that don't like this cd. It's some of the jazziest stuff he's put out. If you don't like it, maybe you should give it another listen. Like HalluRain said, Jagged Little Pill might be a throwaway, but the rest of it is killer.

Is Sheila E. playing on this song particularly in the beginning?

I went to school in ithaca ny and drove to syracuse ny to get this album. was the closest store seeling it the day it came out. Listened to it twice on the way back, have always loved she spoke 2 me, 5 Women, When The Lights Go down (intro especially), extraordinary and i know alot of people like the original and so do i but old friends 4 sale is another track which stands out to me I believe in horns!

except "She Spoke To Me",which is cool, the rest of the stuff is contractual -filler and mushy ballads that were deleted from an awful movie....
he didn't spend much time whipping this together. plus-changing the lyrics to a classic is always ill -advised. overall,a weak record. the cover is a joke also....

As I remember, there was no (or verrry little) publicity about this release at the time. Just by chance I noticed it at "The Wiz" and was shaking with excitement and joy. I am one to by the CD the first day of release and this one slipped by me.
Of all the tracks 5 Women and She Spoke 2 Me stand out as my faves. Really Great CD! I love the cover art too! "All of me give 2 thee down at your feet ...
The reassurance in your rhythm speaks 2 me." -------------------------------------------------------- "I wanna hold U, wrap U up in lace. And I wanna kiss U, kiss U all over your face."

I know that album was released as an contractual obligation, but I love it! It's totally different than the tone of Chaos and Disorder and I think it really has some gems on it.

Starts pretty strong, but I just don't dig When the Lights Go Out as much as some of you do. I keep waiting for it to get somewhere that it never does. Not a big fan of Little Pill or There is Lonely either. I think 5 Women would be good for Joe Cocker, though.
Then it ends pretty strong. Old Friends & Extraordinary are classics, and Sarah is pretty fun. All in all I think I'd give it a B. Something about it doesn't quite grab me. Maybe it's because it's patched together. I prefer other "lesser" albums like Come or Chaos & Disorder. Check this song out at:
