The songs are tight, funky and fun. The production is slick as snot on a door knob!

OMG, I remember the day this album came out. I walked from my dorm to the record store at 9 am, as soon as they opened and got the first copy. This remains 2 this day one of my favorite albums! Every single song is hot and my entire dormitory hated me cuz I blared I Hate U CONSTANTLY!

lol I played it constantly, in spite if the fact that about half of the album I'd had in bootleg form for a year and a half!

TGE's my fav Prince album. The only song that should've been left off is now. P. Control is hilarious.

Wha?? "Now" is great! I'd get rid of "We March". It's an incredibly weak track, and doesn't fit the tone of the album at all.

That's funny. I really like We March.
Don't hurt me, I'm a newb. I'm supposed to be stupid.

Its probably my least favorite song from that time period. I can think of at least six or seven outtakes I would have preferred in place of it.

The song is about Minneapolis gossip journalist CJ. She frequently runs stories about Prince that are quite mean spirited. Essentially, she has a mad-on for him, and writes up every little piece of gossip she can find, regardless of its validity. She also has an annoying habit of referring to him as "Symbolina" (I guess she thinks its clever. Personally, I find it rather third grade). Sure, Prince can be a dick, but the way this woman writes about him almost always makes her to appear to be someone who is incredibly jealous of him.

Anyhoo, to answer your question, the "Billy Jack" is a reference to the 1971 film of that name. Here's a description of the film from the Internet Movie Database:

Billy Jack is a half-Indian/half-white ex-Green Beret who is being drawn more and more toward his Indian side. He hates violence, but can't get away from it in the white man's world. Pitting the good guys, the students of the peace-loving free-arts school in the desert vs. the conservative bad guys in the near-by town, the movie plays definitive late-60s themes/messages: anti-establishment, make love not war, the senseless slaughter of God's creatures, the rape of society (figuratively and literally), two-sided justice, racial segregation and prejudices, and basic socialist ideals.

So, in a nutshell, the film's hero is a crusader for good. Prince tacks on the "Bitch" to illustrate that CJ is a crusader as well, but for ill. She has a mission to attack and slander, rather than uplift and love. Rather than fight the establishment, she chooses to go after one man who isn't doing anything to her.

Many have pointed out that Prince seems hypocritical in calling her "Bitch" when he earlier (in "We March") makes the statement that men shouldn't call women that. Of course, the point is that he's making an exception for someone to whom it is truly fitting (in this case, he HAS found a better reason to call her such).
