OK, let's just say that Prince smokes a joint and kind of losens up enough to tell you he'd really like your opinion on something.

He then rambles on a bit about some type of ancient Egyption myth, something about milk cuasing mucus to form in the blood, and so forth.

BUt he finally gets to the question and his question is:

"Would you rather me re-master all of my back catalogue, including b-sides, over the next year before releasing my new material two years from now at a pace of one album a year?"

"Or do you not care about all that shit? Would you rather me just drop my new album two weeks from now, and move on?"

I'd ask him to let me listen to the new album first before I gave him an answer.

If the new album rocks, release it right away!

If it sucks, then go back to work on the old stuff provided that you resist any attempts at "reinvention" of the lyrics or butchering them in any way.

i think if prince put a lot of himself into the remaster/reissues project, i wouldn't mind if it took a while before a new album surfaced.

that's to say, if there were ample bonus tracks, liner notes, and other goodies included in these reissues, i wouldn't mind. something bareboned and generic just for the sake of better sound? that's great, but it wouldn't hold me off. i'd need some new stuff.
