Your "code" is a cop-out... It's that simple. Grow a pair and face reality. You can't blame the white man for everything. I'm glad you appreciate St. Patrick's Day... I'm thrilled that you enjoy Latino fighters... I think it's awesome that you are proud of being black. I think you've mistaken my stance. All I'm saying is that I think awards based on skin color or nationality are bogus. Compete with the "mainstream" (look up the word if you don't know the "real" meaning of it).

Perhaps you should take your own advice about facing reality. "Mainstream" being code for "white" is a simple fact. Another fact, which you're clearly missing, is that events which are meant to celebrate black achievement and community are not meant to "compete" with the mainstream. I swear, some white folks just can't stand seeing anything where we're not the main event! lol

Funkmistress, what would be "idiotic and redundant"? You're not making a logical comment.

Read my above post again. Having an awards show aimed at white people would be as redundant as anything in the Redundancy Files of the Redundancy Departmant of Redundancy.

grow a pair? junior my children and only my children are the barometer of my manhood. and just so you know, they love daddy. as for my spelling and punctjeeashon LOL, that's what mah muhfuckin editor ( a nice young white boy like yourself) is fo ! LOL . obviously, as a prince fan and sensitive guy, you were a little tweeked by seeing the man accept acknowledgment from the black community thus accepting his heritage. As a black man i always accepted prince, even when he was fronting as "multiculteral" i never gave a shit .The real question is now that prince is at peace with being black do you accept him?. If you did you would have never made an issue of the format in the first damn place.

mar10world...

You know, I don't think we're on opposite sides of the coin as much as you think we are. I'm not judging your manhood. The fact that you think I might be speaks volumes for you.

Maybe I didn't position myself correctly in the first place. I don't have a problem at all with ANY race being proud of their heritage. Do you understand that? My issue is in giving out awards for those exclusive to that race. Are you still with me? Perhaps the NAACP awards are not the best illustration, but I think you can see where I'm going with this. Racism cuts both ways. Right now, however, it is only unacceptable for white people to be exclusive, not folks of color. I think this should be a universal idiom.

Now, let me address awards in general... Who gives a shit?! Usually, I completely disagree with who wins awards (Grammys, Oscars, Golden Globes, etc.). They tend to be popularity contests more than a sign of appreciation for bringing beauty and creativity into our little world here. I am glad the Prince was recognized. Not that it changes my feelings for him one bit, though. I admire the man for his musicianship, not for how he looks (which seems to be a close 2nd for many of the people on the org), nor for the color of his skin. He is a freakin' musical genius! Let's honor him for that, not for being black (or, for fronting as being "multiculteral" (sic) as you said).

Do you see the difference?

I would be interested to learn more about you... Especially since you seem to know so much about me. Wait a minute, you don't know jack about me, do you? You know what they call it when you judge someone before you know the facts? PREJUDICE. That's right. Pre (as in "before") and Judge (as in "to make a determination"). Your little racist comments do you more harm than good. I hope you see this and learn a little bit about yourself. Until then, you are doomed to work for the man (whatever color he may be!).

Racism affects all races and all races have been enslaved in history. Some past events R just closer than others.

what i know about myself is not your domain, nor under your scrutiny, your opinions fall neither here nor there. When you say "grow a pair",and then try to backtrack from it like it wasnt a "manhood" type of statement you reveal yourself as passive aggressive. When i put it out there, right or wrong it's out there and i will stand on my square junior.Hell, i dont even mind you calling me a racist LOL, whatever makes you feel real junior. As for the topic as a whole, you cant school us, you can only share how you feel, when others shared how they feel you got all bent out of shape.Like my Black mamma (LOL) used to say "baby, the best thing about men who try to make everything a pissin contest is the option to leave em standin there with dick in hand". So on that note, knock yourself out junior, ima go turn to BET or Telemundo.

Man, did I start a firestorm up in here. I think that NAACP awards are not for everyone who cannot get with what they are about. Showing people of color can achieve greatness. I am saddened by the fact some of you took it as a racist thing which it isn't but that shows more youth on your part because there was a time which I have lived through when we people of color were not even mentioned in the same breath as others. So I am proud that my people could show pride and honor people who look like me and others. And you have a problem then what does that say about you!!!

"Showing people of color can achieve greatness. I am saddened by the fact some of you took it as a racist thing..."

Does that explain it better?

When you seperate people by color, you are dividing races. That is a form of racism, like it or not.

I think with that, I am done with this thread. It's been fun.

Sorry but some of us are people of color and we like to celebrate. And why are you so threatened by this. We show an appeciation for our people and it has nothing to do with hate which is how I would define something racist as you would see it. No matter how you see us we are just what we are people of color who have the right to have awards for ourselves and for others as well. Blacks don't complain about the Latin Grammies so why are you so bother by these awards specifically.

OK... One last go-around and then I am truly finished (much to the relief of some, I take it).

In a previous post, I admitted that the NAACP awards was probably a bad example of giving awards based on race. The Latin Grammys is much better. My biggest beef with that is that if "white" (whatever that means) people held an award ceremony that was exclusive to folks of European ethnicity, it would be front page news. People on this website would be flipping out! It's all we would hear about on the news for the next 6 months!

Of course, according to some people, that's what America already is, right? Mainstream = White is what I've been told here. I don't buy that for a second. To me, that is a cop-out. "I can't get a job 'cuz I'm not white." "I can't go to college 'cuz I'm not white." WHATEVER!!! I'm sure Condoleeza Rice never said that!

I'm not saying that racism doesn't exist... It definitely does! So why would non-white groups want to promote it? When you say "Latin Grammys", you have excluded everyone who is not from Latin America. That doesn't sound right to me.

Apparently I am in the minority on this one, which is OK. At the very least, this has created some good discussion. Thanks for your input, jimmyrogertodd.

No problem and this is not to exclude white people it is just to give some of us of color who never get the Grammy or the American Music award something to be proud of.Did you ever think of the year when U2 won best album over Prince and Prince said hey I can do that but can they do Housequake? I didn't like that but I had to understand that. Not that there album wasn't awesome cause I myself had bought it. But look at Mtv n VH1 and see how many times they will play Green Days videos as opposed to an artist of color albeit Prince or say any one other than Usher. So we have to show our appreciation to our heroes so they can be encouraged and keep on keepin on if you can understand where I am coming from. The thought of equality is a beautiful dream that has yet to be fully realized. And this was definitely not meant as a personal attack at you cause we don't really know each other and race is such a touchy subject and I truly did not mean what I originally wrote to be taken as a post of any racially motivated drivel but I guess it was taken that way but Hey that's life!!!
