yup. this is one of my fav Prince albums. it's dark and brooding,
lonely, desolate, angry, sexy, x-rated and downright filthy.

oh and it's got some beautiful melodies too giggle

it's has to be in the top ten!!
you feel like you are in a special few when you listen to it. The sequence is really great and i don;t even mind the rushing water. i might cut it out and have a listen.

one thing i don't like is the guitar solo parts on loose. it's all the same and just cheezy sounding.

Yeah, I've always really liked this album too! Really strong cuts on here and nothing over-cooked. People here often bemoan "Solo" and "Orgasm", but I really like Solo (despite it sending a bit of a chill down your spine, especially if you listen to it on a very capable hi-fi, and actually making you feel sorry for Prince) - its a fantastically brave song for an artist to put out and its a brilliant vocal performance, completely sucks you in.

Orgasm - well, surely that was the logical conclusion of an album called "Come"?! And, given this is Prince, the recording of a woman acheiing climax was never going to be what you might expect, was it?

I think the album was recorded in a dark and stressful period for Prince (after all, he was killing Prince off with this album) and it comes through, but there is always hope and positivity on any Prince album and here it comes (sorry!) with "Come", "Race" and "Letitgo", but it also engendered an extra vitality to the rest of the music.

Its a killer album really and each track (barring Orgasm) can stand on its own. "Papa", "Dark", "Loose!", wow, they're all great songs.

I remember the NME were particularly complimentary about the album back then, th reviewer (intrigued by the fact that Prince was now "dead"(incidentally, anyone else remember the days when Prince's antics and moves actually generated a postive mystique about the man? Wan't it great then? The media and fans lapped it up, that is, until the "Slave" and name-change era!)) called it "a fabulous, X-rated, dirty postcard from Prince,

I like this album a lot and haven't heard it in possibly 2 years - so, thanks, I'm gonna stick it in the sliver spinner right now biggrin

This is a wonderful album, in my opinion. My husbamd, who turned me on to P back in the day doesn't care for it. He claims P didn't care about this album and it was merely a contractual obligation with WB so he refuses to say he really likes it. All I can think is how can he not care about "Loose"? It is one of my top 20 P songs ever. That song is why I want him to be willing to use curse words again - I want to hear it live someday.

I'm only bored by the music of "Race" on this album. It sounds like the theme to "In Living Color"

I hated this album when I first heard it.
I couldn't believe Prince would followup Gold Experience material (which I had bought through a bootleg called "Welcome 2 the Beautiful Experience") and prince material with this lackluster album.

It has since grown on me and I dig about 80% of the album. With every release Prince has put out in the last 5 years or so, the more COME is starting to look like a musical Marvel in comparison.

It's got touches of absolute brilliance on it, but it needed a couple more great songs on it for it to be great.

I put off buying this album for so long, because I'd heard not so great things about it. After talking with a few people, mainly endorphin74, I decided to FINALLY go ahead and get it, and I love it! I always loved the single Letitgo, but that album is filled with great tracks. The first three - Come, Space and especially Pheremone - are my faves on that album. I can listen to them again and again.

Yes really. All the moaning is taken from an old unreleased Vanity 6 track called
'Vibrator' which was recorded in 1983 for the (unfinished) second Vanity 6 album.
Also, the guitar soloing was recorded 1981, and a section of it was already used
as a segue between Private Joy & Ronnie Talk To Russia on the Controversy album.

mr.green

I really enjoy that CD. It reminds me of the one and only show I was able to see prince do at Glam Slam. "Come" is a freiggin KILLER track, it has held up SO well. The only track I don't really enjoy anymore is "Loose."

I coulda swore that was Jill Jones moaning from that version of Vibrator off "THE WORK 1976-1984".

Come is diffidently a favorite of mine. This is diffidently one of my top 10 all time favorites. People r forever talking about his 80’s work but P has done some beautiful songs in the 90’s as well. Yes I like everything except 4 the last cut orgasm. biggrin

Ta for that thumbs up!

I always had to stop the tape at that track when driving, it just felt like everyone was staring at me into my car thinking "You dirty bastrad!" redface Maybe I should've rolled my windows up hey? confused

I liked the "Come" album but I wasn't too keen on "Solo" and "Race" was a bit of a hit and miss with me.
