Love§exy Revisted

Ok let me start this off by saying I was NEVER big on the Love§exy faze (album, look, everything). Naturally I thought it was an ok album (I mean it's Prince it's gonna have at least 3 gems on it).But the other day i decided to go ahead and get this on CD (had it on cassette it was time to convert) So last night I sat down with some earphones and took in the whole album and I cannot beleive how much I slept on this album! I mean the production is so ambitious, clean, and daring, The funk is thick and multi layered. It is truely one of his best albums and it sounds like he had a good time creating it. You can feel his inspiration on every track. So here is my review song by song if you care (if you didn't you would not have gotten this far)

Eye No-
Strange to say the least but you hear how his production skills had inproved big time. the pocket is so hot and it can be sloppy at times but a great introduction to a very DIFFERENT Prince album. I like this version better than the one that was to be on Crystal ball.

Alphabet St.-
What can i say about this song...It's hot as hell!! I just wish he would turn that bass up. The brotha is popping strings like there is no 2morrow. So FUNKY

Glam Slam-
Easily the weakest track on the album. I'm sorry this has cheese smeared all over it. I guess the best thing I can about it is that the production is good.

Anna Stesia-
NOT ONE NEGATIVE THING TO SAY ABOUT THIS TRACK-CLASSIC

Dance On-
One of my favorite tracks from the album. Shelia is fucking those drums up (listen for the cymbals). If you don't like this song then you just don't know funk and how to experince TRUE FUNK.

Love§exy-
Second weakest track on the album only behind Glam Slam. Way too much shit going on in this song. And can some please tell me what he is talking about?

When 2 R in love-
We all know this is the shit.

Eye Wish U Heaven.-
Another one of my favorites. The guitar is simple beautiful. Prince has to be the best rythm guitarist out there hands down. The harmonies are so crisp and the song structure is just perfect.

Positivity-
MY FAVORITE TRACK OFF THE ALBUM. Why does so many people hate this song, This is what it is all about for me. the guitar, the beat, the vocals-OMG!! I fucking love this song. I just don't see how people don't like this. A great way to end a very DIFFERENT Prince album.

I had to vent because I always see people here talk about how much they really love this album but I never understood what was so great about it. If you felt the way I did I urge you to pick it back up and listen to it with some EARPHONES. I think you will have a newfound respect for the album and you might be missing out on one of the most underrated albums of Prince's carreer.

Out.

those are the only tracks i love listenin to the others i may skip depending on my mood, but your certainly right about listenin to them on EARPHONES.. certainly makes the album more interesting, its one of the albums i listen to less only because of the one track thing, but when you have earphones on yes, its a pleasure that way..

Then we have something in common because I feel the same about your comment. Lets just agree to disagree, Unless you have something more insightful to add but so far that isn't the case.

Lovesexy... the feeling you get when you fall in Love, not with a girl or a boy, but the Heavens above. Lovesexy!!!

Glam Slam and the title track are 2 of the strongest on the CD. To call the ultimate act of 2 becoming one, cheese??? I'd say you've never experienced your own Glam Slam.

nod

I was going to answer that question, but decided it wasn't worth it.

When I hear

This feeling's so good in every single way
I want it morning, noon and night of every day
And if by chance I cannot have it, I can't say
But with it I know Heaven's just a kiss away

especially on the second chorus, when the choir comes in, I still get chills. Those words describe the way I feel about this song and so much of Prince's music.

I recently rediscovered (or finallly listened to) Lovesexy and I
felt the same way as you, larksanders.

When I first bought it I thought it was boring and I hated the
whole one track thing, but now Im really starting to like it.

My favorites so far are Positivity, I wish U Heaven, Dance On, and Anastasia
I've always loved Alphabet St. anyway biggrin

Its a cool album, not a favorite, but its really getting me pumped for spring
Me likes razz
If you will, so will I

Lovesexy is speaking the truth!!
Glam Slam and Lovesexy are two of the strongest tracks!

'Dance On' is is the least slammin' track, imo.

overrated. folks tend to hold this album in high regard for more personal reasons (totally understandable) but when all's said and done, it's pretty much been praised a lot by the fan community. might be underrated by the immediate public and perhaps critical masses, but that's where it ends.

Hey to each his own... I usually like Princes more absure cuts anyway ( ronnie talk 2 russia, tamborine,Annie christen, Automatic).

I don't take offense nor take it personally what people say here. To me it's mostly neagtive shit anyway so it's not that serious to me. I know there are some people who can feel me and some who don't. And then there are just some mods who think they run shit because it makes them feel better ( did i just say that)

Anyway sticking to the topic, it's my opinion and I wanted to share my experience with other "fans" hoping someone could relate. Didn't mean for it to turn negative but c'mon we're posting on the org--IT'S BOUND TO HAPPEN.

PS Glam Slam is still wack to me.

Lovesexy has always been one of my faves. 1999 is near and dear because of the shit I was goin through. But Lovesexy was my first fave as an ADULT fan of P so I got his sprituality duality message.

This album really didnt do anything for me until i heard it with headphones--
...Personally-- Glam Slam is the most Disneyesque--sing-a-long song on the cd

but when i started singing it to my mother when she called-- I knew i was hooked.
I also think of it when i have really good sex...but maybe thats just me.
shrug

smile I "re-discovered" LoveSexy about 2 years ago-- i remember people giving me the eye @ work when they saw the cd case--- i felt like i was smuggling porn. lol

other than that-- i salute u for giving a classic a second chance for your approval...

Love§exy-
Second weakest track on the album only behind Glam Slam. Way too much shit going on in this song. And can some please tell me what he is talking about?

Forgive me for asking but, if your regard for this album is so high then how can you dismiss its title track musically and lyrically. Its the centre piece of the work, its his expression on which the rest of the album is based. Thats not a dig, i am just curious. Personally i couldn't care less for the album.

thats a good point...not that all title tracks serve this purpose but i always felt that lovesexy was the climax or emotional peak of the album.....the songs that followed always reminded me of epiloges in a book...neccessary closer but lovesexy was the end of the story....

dont know why i felt that way..
