"Days Of Wild" why not on One Nite Alone?

snowflake

I was wondering if someone "in the know" knows why "Days of Wild"
was not included on either the cd release or the dvd release of
the 'One Nite Alone' tour.

Sure, he released the "Days of Wild" live single from that tour,
but it was heavily tampered with in post-production. [i still
think it's an incredible performance and a cool release tho].

But why wasn't there a version of "days of wild" on either the
concert dis or the aftershow disc?

Does anyone know, if it was considered for inclusion at some
point?

Cuz I just can't imagine this live-anthem to not be included on
the box or the dvd. It is the single most disappointing thing
about this package for me.

The song's been played at every tour and at almost every concert
for the past 12 years.

Think about it. Prince started complaining about playing Purple
Rain in concert only 9 years after it was a hit.

He's done "Days of Wild" for 12 years now, whilst constantly
doing it in different arrangements and coming up with new stuff
to add or to take away from it.

In a way, it's become more of a Prince anthem [for those in the
know] than Purple Rain.

Plus, it still sounds fresh. Especially on the ONA tour, it came
off as never before [excluding the 1994 glam slam performances]
with a wicked new arrangement and a mad perverted funkiness that
I'd never felt in it before.

So why why why why why not include in on the ONA disc set or at
least on the DVD?

What a great way to introduce this song to the bigger masses and
to enjoy it over and over and over on dvd

It could have so easily had a place on the aftershow disc instead
of that lame "Sunny/Just Friends" excuse of a performance.

Oh well, I guess I should be glad he released the live single
cuz that's a great one to have as well.

It's just that, I can't get enough of this song. You can play
a dozen versions of it back2back and still not be bored by it.

thumbs up!

Possibly because he already has a live version of Days of Wild on Crystal Ball.
The DoW cd was first given away at just one concert & maybe they put out the single to meet the demand for that single from those of us who weren't at that concert.

I love the Montreal version of "DOW"...probaly because I was front row. smile

I was the "no no, not U" guy in the song. sad

It was the last jam of the night on the last night of the tour before they went back to Paisley Park for the Celebration. Purple Rain had just ended then Prince had come out wearing a Montreal Canadians jersey with his name on it. He picked up his new bass then Larry Graham walked out, grabbed his bass and they let it rip. guitar The song lasted about 25 minutes and the bass was pounding my chest. eek I was sore from the bass for a few hours!!! headbang

Yes you are right I was 2nd row and DOW was fantastic, Prince with the jersey a bit too long, and all the jam was great.

I think you answered your own question - by omitting it from ONA boxset it made the cd single more desirable, hence more sales and more profit. #1 at the bank and all that.
I have both DoW singles, and while the missing verses and changed lyrics is a tad frustrating, the longer version on the Cele promo really does kick arse.

yeah, you're probably right. but still, wasn't the days of wild single
released well before the ona albums?

i think it was ever released before that Xenophobia EP promo release..

I just want a 2 disc set featuring 14 wicked performances of this song
ranging from 1994 to 2004.

???

DOW was not played more than 3 or 4 times during the ONA Tour, and I don't think it was ever played during the Musicology Tour.

In fact, I think this one has become more of an aftershow favourite than anything else, at least since the 94-95 NPG was disbanded...

hmm It has?? This IS the NPG anthem of ALL time, and I think you would be hard pressed to find it played in concert at all in the last three years...aside from Montreal and the 2001 Celebration. Where are u getting your facts from?

Yep. I've seen six concerts since 97 and never seen him do that live. Must be more of a small club thing.
