I like Musicology alot more, even though It's not an album I consider all that wonderful.

But Rave does have Pretty Man. Man, I love that song!

Rave has a couple of Purple Gems and that is one of them. That is one of my favorites by him.

Musicology

The flow on "Musicology" is somehow better. "Rave" could be the bomb, just imagine he had replaced the version of the title track with a different one (maybe similar to the Small Club version) and just had forgotten where he had put the masters for "Undisputed" and used "Prettyman" as track 2 instead. With these slight corrections, you have a classic.

What I must give to "Rave": I just gave it a spin again some weeks ago (after some years as a dust collector) and I must say, this record surprised me - it really grows on you! So many great tunes on it (what I didn't realize back in '99)!

"Musicology" by far. About the only thing I can get into on "Rave" is the title track.

You're right, I can't sit still to it, 'cause I have to run to my CD player to press the skip button (or at least get up to find the remote control).

I really love Prince's music, but this might be his worst song ever. Every tune on NPS is a symphony compared to "Undisputed". Maybe he lost a bet - "Dude, if you lose, you have to put that one on your next album..."

I'd take Rave anyday , the opening 2 tracks arent great but after that
its a solid enjoyable album , and theres a class about some of the tracks ,
TGRES , Tangerine , I Love U ....that is way above anything on Musicology.
Pretty Man outdoes everything he's released last year also , and you just
know he didnt even think twice about dishing out that funk , it was just
effortless ,its the difference between the 2 albums , everything on
Musicology sounds strained by comparison.

Which of the aforementioned do you prefer? Do you feel, as I do, that Prince is having more fun and putting in more effort in RU2TJF? I like Musicology loads, but I listened to Rave for the first time in ages today and found myself appreciating it far more than I ever had.

I really don't like Rave - never listen to it anymore - it just depresses me. Musicology is no great shakes but I enjoy it.

No genius composition but a very fun song, IMO. Wish I had the CD here now.

Musicology is better. However, I just purchased the vinyl of Rave yesterday, and I gotta say I appreciate this album MUCH more now than I did when it came out. It's really a good album, with some standout tracks. "Baby Knows" is my personal fave.

When I bought Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic back in 2000, I used 2 play it front to back. It was my essential summer album. After 3 years passed, it was just dated 4 me. First of all, it was overlong, it had filler tracks, and some of the instrumentation just didn't sound inspiring. I still do play tracks like The Greatest Romance Ever Sold and Man O War. Then, Musicology came around. All I can say about this album is that it is Prince's tightest album by far. I think there was only 1 song I didn't like on there. So, Musicology is the one.

I like Musicology better. Rave was just plain boring IMO. Musicology uses more live instruments and sounds like Prince was having fun.

I like Rave better...

I think Illusion and Life o the Party are horrific tracks... however the rest of them are good or average.

I think Rave, Greatest Romance Ever Sold, So Far So Pleased, SUn Moon and Stars, I Love U But I Don't Trust You Anymore, and Wherever U Go, Whatever U Do are all very good to superb tracks.. And the rest are pretty good. Overall I just like the Rave vibe a lot better than Musicology.

Musicology is cool and definitely has some its pluses
but I can easily get tired of it

RAVE ROCKS! cool
